When having warranty work done I usually ask for a proforma invoice - that way I know what parts were replaced and how many labour hours were budgeted.
That's a good idea, I'll do that in future. The trouble for me was that they gave me some sheets of paper but it wasn't until I looked at them later that I realised they were both just for the MOT that was done when they had the car.

My X3 30d just got the all clear! biggrin Arrived around 08hr15. At 08hr30 I was wandering around the used cars, and could see my car getting its "pre-wash". By 09hr20 I was engrossed in the complementary newspaper when the service advisor came to inform me that the car doesn't need a new EGR cooler and I could take it away. Their computer system is down, and he's going to send the paperwork in the post. The only thing they picked-up on the health check is the tyres down to 3.5mm, which I already knew.

Lucky you! We've just been cancelled for the second time. My wife called yesterday to make sure the booking was still on, they even confirmed the hire car was in place. Only when she got there was it cancelled. Pretty shabby really. It's been 6 months now since we first contacted the dealer.. Apparently we have a 'do not cancel' note for next time...

Got the call from main dealer to say mine is one of the unlucky ones(2013 730d), stated could be anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months frown
Good news is that a very nice 2018 730d was delivered this afternoon smile

Suppose, thinking positive I have a hundred mile daily commute so it's keeping the miles on my own car down a bit.

Just a bit of ‘good news’ for some to possibly cling to.
Had a couple of warnings pop up Monday/Tuesday, found out then about the egr recall so rang my local BMW garage, told them the symptoms and they told me to ring BMW emergency assist straight away (this was around 17:30 Tues) by 20:00 the car had been collected and taken off to the local dealer. Hire car provided the next morning (Dacia wtf!!) spoke to them Thursday at around half 5 and it was all done and ready for collection!!! Picked it up again this morning so around 2 days away, to say I’m happy is an understatement after reading everyone else’s timelines!
So it can be done quick IF they have the correct parts 👍

Another relatively good news story.

Booked our F11 520d in for the recall a couple of months ago and the appointment was yesterday. Just had a call to say the cooler has been replaced and that I can pick up tomorrow.

My only issue is that prior to going in I was seeing symptoms of a clogged EGR valve (rough idle, loss of power between 1-2k) and they haven't replaced the whole valve (just the cooler). So will be interesting to see whether those symptoms are still there or whether will need to replace the valve as a separate operation.

Got my 730d back this morning, egr cooler replaced. Not too bad, just under 4 weeks.
Great to be back in my own car. Just under 2000 miles done in the 2018 730d replacement averaged 52.8mpg which is almost 10mpg better than my car manages. Pretty impressive.

53mpg?? In a 730d? Was that off a cliff or something? Impressive!

Glasgow to Edinburgh motorway miles 5 days a week. It's impressive indeed!

May I ask how many leptons allowed to achieve that? I'm guessing closer to 60 than 70?

laugh

Glasgow - Edinburgh is measured in decimals of leptons most mornings, run home isn’t much better.

Yes as Emicen says it's pretty busy both ways but does lead to economical running.

I was in a 730d Uber the other day, the range on the screen said 800+ miles! I asked the driver and he said hes actually had better on the long run!

My neighbour had been without his 2015 F31 330d for 13 weeks now, and the dealer has given zero commitment on when it might be ready. 13 miserable weeks in a Fiat Tipo hatch from Enterprise. On the plus side, he will enjoy his F31 when he gets it back.

My 2014 F31 330d is showing symptoms of EGR cooler issues again (losing around 400ml / 1000 miles) despite having had the original recall back in December 2018.

Car has extended BMW warranty until August 2019.

I've booked it in for diagnostics on 22nd July.

What are my chances here? Possible for it to have a second EGR cooler or could it be something else.

When you say you had the original recall - was it replaced? If so and if it is a new EGR cooler that's failed then that will be a BIG problem. But other things can cause coolant leaks, like a small hole in the radiator or hose. Are you seeing any anti-freeze smelling drips on your drive?

MIne had the cooler and egr replaced under the recall, a month later and 100 miles on its leaking again. Took it back and it turned out to be a small plastic coolant pipe that seems really common, pain in the arse to replace.

Pipe £15.00 Genuine BMW part
Labour £250

Wear and tear i guess, it was something similar to this item

I believe it was replaced yes, but this was not done in my ownership. BMW assist have the record of the car being in for the recall in December. I've read of people having it replaced twice due to failure. I'm pretty sure it is not a leak from what I can see, it looks immaculately clean underneath, no drips or any such thing.

Either way, the car is under extended warranty until August so i'm hoping either the recall will be required again or any issues will be fixed under warranty.
