I've had to replace the nearside rear alloy on my E89 zed4 because of cracking And despite a weld repair that got it an m o t pass and lasted 150 miles a new wheel is the only alternative despite eBay and dismantling companies I've tried the lot
Seems BMW are notorious for poor quality wheels. Anyone had similar?

Very well known, very common and documented issue with BMW wheels.

And Mercedes and Jaguar and Audi..........well you get the idea.

Type in ‘any car brand’ cracked rim and you’ll get a result.

A combination of big rims, low profile tyres and crappy UK roads.

No. Happens regardless, even on brands who never fit RFTs

On the other hand I’d be surprised if smaller BMW rims, with high profile tyres, RFT or not crack with the frequency of larger rims.

Not surprising it’s a nearside rear on a Z4, in the gutter and a lower profile tyre than the front in all likelihood. Mind you, 10/11 years isn’t too bad if it’s the first.
