I have a set of 17 inch BMW alloys (their standard winter wheel package when I bought new in 2012) for my M135i and I wondered whether they will fit a 2016 320i xDrive touring? The 320i has the M Sport plus brakes but assume these are no larger than the M135 callipers.

Does anyone know if they'll fit? The Touring will come with 19 inch alloys plus run flats (Potenza) but I'd like to fit winter tyres to make full use of the Xdrive over winter.

Thanks

Same PCD, centre bore and bolts. Different offset; 135i is 42mm, 320 34mm.

135i wheels will sit 8mm further into arch of 320. How that will work depends on relative widths.

You also need to consider overall tyre diameters. The winters for the 135 would have a different section to make the diameter the same as the summers (assuming they were a bigger rim).

Can’t help with brake caliper clearance.

Sitting 8mm further in, may impact on clearances to:
Lower spring seat on shock
Brake hose
Any wiring nearby
Inboard Front tyre clearance on full lock.

It will affect your front and rear track, of course.
Insurance may be interested too.

Especially in the event of an accident!

Most insurance companies classify fitting winter wheels/tyres designed for the specific model as a notifiable modification.

Fitting winter wheels/tyres to a vehicle that are not designed for that specific model would be an instant "Insurance void" in the event of an accident and claim!

Thanks guys. I have no intention to fit if they're not standard dimensions for the 320. I'll look into what OE options I have.

Could be wrong but I think the smallest rim size you can go to with the performance brakes (blue calipers) is 18 inch on the F3x models.

I remember something about this when I got the winters for my 430d. Standard wheels were 19’s but I could (and did) go to 17’s as I have standard brakes.

My 335d has 19” wheels and m-sport brake discs, so 18” is the smallest size I can fit.
On the issue of fitting winter tyres, the door label has the winter size and type quoted as well, so I don’t think notification would be needed.

(That is a generic F30 label, as 17” won’t fit!

Good point about the label! As long as those tyre sizes are respected you know they’ll be fine so it’s a first quick check for the OP to see how his old wheels compare.

If, by chance, his tyre size is OK, he then needs to check what effect the offset might have but it sounds like, if he has the uprated brakes, he’s going to be unlucky.

The old wheels shouldn’t be hard to move on. When I changed my F10, I sold the 4yo winter wheels and tyres for £600 which was OK by me. They cost me about £1100 new, with the car.
