I popped into BMW Hungerford for some prices

Front pads and discs - £279
Rear pads and discs - £164

I bet they don't sell many! Discount requested and declined.

At least I have some part numbers now
To be fair - I would happily have paid those prices recently - e39 M5 - but with AP Racing brakes on the front - getting on for £1,000 to replace disks / pads / fit / etc.
You would be hard pressed to get the Alpina B10 V8S brembo discs and pads for under £1000...

Yep, on the case. 296mm front discs as turns out.

Cheers
Delphi discs & pads here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-528-i-E39-2-8i-SLN-...

I’ve had them on previous cars (not BMWs) and just took them off my 530i touring as I’ve ‘uprated’ my braking set-up to Mtec grooved discs and EBC Yellowstuff pads; because I wanted to and it’s something I’ve always done, not because it was needed etc

The Delphi discs and pads were fine; zero issues and good overall braking really

Bugger, I knew I was a bit out, I do apologise; in 2016 someone posted on the Alpina Register forum that they had been quoted by Sytner for discs at £635 each, with a set of pads at £430... all plus VAT for a grand total £2040.

Ad says 2 owners.. and "no rust" seems optimistic. Looks nice though.

I presume many of the thread has received the air bag "safety recall" letter?

I assume it's just a marketing exercise along the lines of the expansion filler cap replacement many years ago? Or am I being cynical?

Has anyone had the air bag replaced on an E39?

All 3 of my E39s had the airbag recall & all replaced

It’s a necessity as the airbags fitted were dangerous & involved in a few deaths unfortunately.

Plenty of info out there, do your research

You call a BMW dealer and give them your VIN and ask.
Or try here
