Gents, my CD changer has stopped reading discs. Oddly it recognises that I have 6 in there, but it won't read any tracks. Thoughts?
Remove it and give it a good blast with compressed air... Could be full of cack/dust etc...However, could be that the laser mech has given up the ghost too unfortunately...
Time to fit a Grom Audio BT3 kit

I have a spare changer if you want it, Tobinen. I believe you're in Newbury, and I'm between Newbury and Reading. It's sitting doing nothing in my garage. Came out of my old 530d, and worked before I removed it I believe. tobinen said:

If you have a later car you can get a £10 aux cable that plugs into the loom behind the head unit so you can plug in an ipod etc. with a 3.5mm jackhttps://www.i6automotive.co.uk/vehicle-parts/bmw/b...
If you can find a >September 2005 cd changer out of a E60 that should work and give you mp3 playback too (might need a firmware update on the BM54 amp if that's what you have)

Correct except not from an E60! The E60 uses a different bus type and will not work. You need one from a late X5 (E53), X3 (E83) or Z4 (E85/E86).

Really good to see an e39 thread. I bought a 330 sport champagne edition (M-Sport or no such thing whichever you prefer) in 2009, came off the road for repairs in 2016, now finally almost done.
Its no longer my main car but I have decided to keep it, just love the way it drives.
The e39s were a case of everything just right. Im surprised they are still so cheap.

Unfortunately now; the 'cheap' ones will need quite a bit of work to get them right; sort the rust out...Its no longer my main car but I have decided to keep it, just love the way it drives.

The decent ones, now, are going back up in price and rightly so
They're still a sought after car and the ones that are looked after and maintained properly are no fetching premiums that a few years back; everyone would have baulked at...
There are still some knobbers out there that think all E39s (bar the M5s) should be £2k max 'coz that's all there wurf innit bruv' and it's them you need to avoid like the plague when it comes to look to buy one!

I'm not a car man by any stretch, though I do have a sports car really because its something I liked at the right price - my main love is motorbikes. The e39 was just a car for business. Spent years of not replacing it because nothing else drove as nicely so while it looked good I didn't see the point. It was only the sudden need for an estate (2 babies in a row) that changed things, and the need to commute longer distance at the same
Having moved house I'm happy that our set up allows me to keep the car, and I fancy actually using it too on a sort of weekly basis (when the salt isn't on the road). My friend's cousin in Sweden buys a new 5 series every 3 years I think it is, chopping in the last one each time. Apparently she kept her 530 Sport ever since, housed in a garage for summer use only. My friend is a manager at JLR, I was surprised when he said of mine "this drives better than any of our Jaguars".
