Anyone fancy an argument about electronic handbrakes?
I've heard that Lexus makes some of the finest EHBs going........ ;-)

This is true actually, they have much better "feel" than BMW handbrakes, you can instantly tell when it's engaged or not and there is zero slop in the system, unlike BMW handbrakes which always allow for about 7.5 to 8 inches of vehicle movement before the lateral locking pin engages.

You can also do a proper handbrake turn with a Lexus EHB which you can't do with a BMW one, despite it being billed as the ultimate driving machine, but no Lexus owner would ever do a handbrake turn as we have more class than that.

All the cable handbrakes I have owned have ‘felt’ the same.

to be fair that ^^ would make for some pretty epic hand brake turns, just don't count on being able to take the hand brake off till you've stopped / hit something / have spun 7 times (delete as appropriate) ;-)

Why would anyone want degrees of handbrake application? It’s either on or it’s not on.

Unless your coasting and gently applying the handbrake to clean up the brake shoes.

Handbrake for anything apart from parking is used for emergencies when the footbrake fails ie it is the secondary brakes. You don’t want to be faffing about with feel you just want it to work along with changing down hard on the gearbox for engine braking before using a hedge to stop you instead of hitting dorris

I, once, have had to use a handbrake to stop a car after the service brakes failed completely.

Very unusual occurrence, crapped myself when the pedal hit the floor and nothing happened, but it could have been much much worse, I had plenty of space and time to use the gears and rather ineffective handbrake to get us stopped, but in that instance, I certainly didn't want it to lock the rear wheels!

True, but not on calipers with a Kerchinski washer or a flush overbend though.

Now you are trolling and being very silly.

Why are we debating or even discussing the merits of a boring common as garden saloon with a nasty engine barely fit for a van powering it.

This is nuts - this is a petrol heads site - not a photocopier salesman's forum.
Indeed it is a petrol heads site. So why are you here? You talk about sound of a car when you have a standard exhaust on your 111R....hilarious.
I have a cat back SS exhaust on my car and this is what proper petrol heads like to hear, not a clattery piece of $hit, anyone would be nuts to get a 320d over a proper 6 or 8 cylinder car unless they are struggling to pay the bills perhaps.

I turn my car off at idle too unlike diesel owners who seen to think they sound good, that or they are gone deaf from the rattle they make.

To be fair, the new 3 is meant to be a very good drive so I won't knock anyone who gets one, irrespective of engine.

Why do you keep posting these videos of yourself? They don't cast you in a good light at all.

Why do you not understand the appeal of a 320d for those in the market for one? Or are you just posting nonsense to wind everyone up?

Good to see diesel is far from dead.
It's like a terminal illness, it might go into remission but the grim reaper isn't far away.

Diesel cars are almost without exception dreadful. They're unrefined to drive, they're boring to drive with, and they emit dangerous fumes. Due to complex emissions control they are not horrifically unreliable.

Literally these things are ruining peoples health and you are happy to see them continue to be sold. Classy.

As for your comments earlier - I go with what I know and all I know is that everyone I have known who's had a diesel BMW has had big problems with it - and having been in these cars I cannot even say the car is particularly refined or good to drive. Looking at owners forums etc you can see a trend. And as I said earlier - BMW made the TV show watch dog. It's not as if I don't like BMW's - I've had a 7 series and an X5-- both straight six petrols and both just wonderful in every possible way. My current Lotus, Lexus and Toyota are all petrols and give no trouble at all and I have complete confidence in them - even the Lotus biggrin

Perhaps read up on gasoline emissions, and nano-particulates that are virtually unfilterable.
