Yup, i was kicking myself as i thought i had forgot to spec the comfort access.

Then realized why I never bothered. Despite having it on the Discovery and Focus ST we owned it was a great feature.

Yup nowadays they are very brazen. No fear but I'm not gonna let it ruin the experience.

If they want the car I'll just hand the keys over.

They really are great cars. Driven one a couple times and found it was a fantastic blend of refinement and performance. With the deals they are currently doing it makes me wonder why anyone chooses an S3 over one of these.

Having done a few miles in a M135i, I'm very interested in getting a M140i (three-door/manual), and I've read that a cheap remap will easily get it to reliably produce ~450bhp.

With some of the discounts that can be had, new ones look like better value than used, but I'd be reluctant to remap a car less than three years old to avoid interfering with the warranty.

A lot depends on where you live and its worth making a few changes to your security just to give you a bit of an edge.

I have made a few changes to make life harder, you cant just never have anything nice on the off chance someone tries to nick it. Most car thieves arent the type to break in and hold you hostage, they exist but most would rather not meet the owner.

Keep the keys in a Faraday pouch to avoid them being scanned and relayed.

I would buy something different if I was nearer Manchester, or anywhere near Oldham or Bradford.

Also, dont assume that if your car is less sporty that its immune, all sorts get nicked and they arent all hot hatches or even all that exciting.

Although you can’t get a manual new any more and there’s only a small window left to order new before the new model.

Fabulous cars. I've had mine 2 and a bit years, it's been my daily, and I've put 34k on it. Still puts a smile on my face regularly. Quick, smooth, fun to drive, well built, flawlessly reliable, amazingly economical, and the engine is a real highlight in a sea of four cylinder alternatives. All it's ever needed is fuel, screenwash and of course servicing and tyres.

It's cost very little to run. One service at £300, and four tyres at £470. Oh and a pair of wiper blades at £20. A motorway run sees trip averages in the low 40s, and I'm averaging 29 with mixed use.

It's not without its faults. Its utterly crap in the snow (the only car in my entire life I've got completely stuck in and had to abandon), the dampers can struggle when you really push on over poor surfaces, and the open diff is frustrating at times, but I cannot think of anything else at this money that does everything so well. Smooth, quiet and effortless when you're just going from A to B, yet howls to 7k and provides loads of RWD fun when you're in the mood. I also like the fact it bears more than a passing resemblance to a 116d M Sport.

Just a very likeable car. I haven't regretted it for a second.

Although you can’t get a manual new any more and there’s only a small window left to order new before the new model.
That explains why all the new ones I could find were auto! I assumed the manual was just rare rather than discontinued altogether.

I'm surprised at some of the discounts on new ones starting from £26k-£27k. I can't see the value dropping too far below £20k in the first few years, if at all.

If anyone is considering one, don't bother reading reviews from the journos, just read this. Sums the car up perfectly.

If you like modifying your cars these are great too. A remap alone can see a 90hp gain. LSD's can be fitted. M4 lower control arms can be fitted. It's quite the package.

I was a die hard manual fan until i drove an m140i auto. Wow these boxes really are a feat of engineering. So smooth and seamless, also with a full manual mode. The short ratios make you feel like you are accelerating at warp speed.

Glad you’re enjoying it OP.

I pick mine up in a few weeks time. I’m a bit concerned about theft risk, but hoping it should be Ok given where we live but the badlands of Birmingham aren’t a militant mikes away. They do seem to go missing but not at the rate of S3’s and Golf R’s (which were also on the list).

The deals on new cars are available very hard to ignore. I’ve opted out of my company car scheme and this should cost me a bit less than my vRS now costs me (including the loss of my car allowance).

I did the same thing, and it really does save you money. I was paying £240 a month BIK on a VW CC diesel that was allocated to me when I joined. Nice car, but wouldn't have been my choice. Also the BIK was ramping up every year.

As well as losing this BIK liability, the allowance (net) comes to within a couple of quid of the monthly payments. The annual MAR claim covers the maintenance and insurance, and the BIK saving recouped my cash deposit in year 1. Since the start of year 2, I've been chucking this, plus a bit extra when I can, into an ISA to eventually either cover the balloon, or to give me a nice chunk of cash to put down on a replacement if I decide not to keep it. Reliability was my main concern, but so far it's been great.

Of course, I could have done a cheap lease deal on something dull, or bought something older outright, and be quids in, but I saw it as a chance to run a car I really wanted for almost nothing, and have the realistic option of owning it outright at the end, if I wanted to.

Good decision. You won't regret it.

Glad you like the M140i. Great cars.

I've had my M135i for just over 2 years - and had one before that for 6 months too.

Mine's Valencia Orange so not particularly stealthy - no comfort access either so not too worried about theft (perhaps I should be...!)

Yeah, the last two years with 3% hikes have really stung. The vRS is 30% now which really stings. A company car is easy but it’s now longer a perk, it feels more like a punishment. For the same price as my M140 is going to cost me (inc. my estimated services, tyres etc over four years) I could have replaced my vRS with an A180 AMG Line auto..... absolute no brainier.

I did think about buying something cheaper and pocketing the cash, but figured that I’d take advantage of the aggressive deals on the 140. Mine was with no deposit which seemed ideal opting out.

I was in the local BMW dealer last week with my mother as she picked up her new Mini Cooper, and was eyeing up the deals on an M140 - so, so tempting, as it would be a perfect replacement for my 125i Coupe. Sadly I play golf a lot so normally have a boot full of clubs and trolleys, so had to walk away as the boot was far too small.

I'm hoping there are similar deals on the 4 GC later in the year as it comes up for replacement. If not, I'll find a nice 435i/440i.

Bit gutted though, as I love the M140i. I'm guessing it's like my 125i but turned up to 11.

I have a 125i E82 coupe and find the M140i more practical.

I'm terms of comparison. There is none.... Took it for a spin last night and its just gollops of power on tap.

Very very different to my E46 M3 obviously. I feel I could lose my licence far easier in this car than the M3

Echo this - have had mine for 3 1/2 years and 25k miles and its been fantastic in every sense - its a perfect DD in so many ways. I've debadged / added an MP LSD and use winter tyres in the winter and that fixes the winter/snow issues completely and it really does fly under the radar. I will also be treating it to some MP springs to see if it can improve upon the sporty side of things. Adaptive dampers though are a must to take full advantage of its jekyll/hyde ability/nature.

Mine is a stage 1 M135i and having come from an E92 M3 also have no regrets. The M3 was an awful daily.

Fantastic every day car as already mentioned. For those with the ZF8 I would also recommend the XHP gearbox remap. Makes the gearbox even smoother in comfort but the shifts are so much faster in sports and traction modes and starts to replicate a DCT box.

I’ve a friend with an AC Schnizter converted Stage 2 tuned M135i and it’s an absolute weapon with a conservative 380bhp (soon to be sold if anyone is interested?!). Unfortunately we’ve also a friend who had an M135i though it was taken from him when he arrived home in the suburbs of a Bham one evening earlier this year by a couple of masked guys. It’s such a shame the 135/140s are becoming such a high risk target for car thieves as well as S/RS Audis. Debadge your cars, isolate the OBD (if you dare) & put on something like a Ghost security system is my recommendation.
