At least my BMW was equipped with a throttle that can be held at a constant level, without constantly wanting to deposit my car into the boot of a Honda Jazz.

and your response really does sum up the stuck up idiots on PH in denial more than anything.
What denial?

No one likes the cars you like, so what? Why do you take it personally?

It doesn't matter what we think, if you like them that's all that matters.

The fact you feel the need to keep slagging off BMWs etc. makes me wonder if you are trying really hard to convince yourself about your car choices?

I would never go into a Lexus section and start to tell people "You're wrong!!!!"
Of course they are not wrong, they have them because it does what they want from a car and that is all that matters.

Company in needing to make a profit shocker. Makes total sense for BMW to do this, and a great model for part time use of certain functions.

Ah OK. I'm guessing all the surging in the banal videos you post comes from the muppet in the driver's seat instead.

The Subaru is fully loaded as standard - no 2008 BMW 3 series will have all that without upgrading, the Lexus was SEL so top spec but even in SE trim would have more 'extras' than a BMW 3 series off the production line - even the low rent Accord was better equipped than a BMW 3 series in 2005 back then.

No confusion on my part but the owners in denial should get some help, plus BMW remember are at the bottom of the pile in surveys for the last number of years so it’s a bit $hitty to be asking for all this extra money for cars that are not all that reliable in the first place.
You're just as bad as the brand snobs! You've heard of inverse snobbery right?

It's nothing new, German manufacturers have always bummed their customers on options - BMW, MB, Audi, Porsche. They all do it and have all done it. But guess what, no one is forcing you to buy one.

Back on topic, I hadn't thought of the potential to keep the car under the tax threshold and then add stuff later.

Just imagining the fun and games with insurance..

Presumably enabling most of these count as modifications which will need to be declared, even though they won't affect the repair cost of the car? (As the hardware is already present).

I think this is brilliant -

Rather than paying full list for options that may or may not be any good, that may add nothing to your cars value can now be ordered after you have the car if you change your mind.

It might help resale where a future buyer buys it because they want it but you didn’t have it and so saved the cost.

Also ‘mate I’ll take it if you throw in the laser lights for free..’ convo can help the deal.

You can select exactly what you want and tailor it accordingly and ultimately out of warranty hack your car and gear it up.

Also no more having to buy a full price pack when all you want is 3 of the 5 options but you have to pay for all 5.

I have no issues as it’s up front and honest

It’s not like computer games - they used to have everything and you could complete a game out of the box with no dlc’s required. With a car you never had all the options without paying more.
