Thanks Jack, that's all really helpful. I would like the newer shinier things but I think can more than live with the F model. I've got some time before May to start hunting for the right sort of spec.
Right spec on the 340i , inmho, includes Adaptive M Sport suspension, so you can have a sporty throttle and a comfortable ride. M sport plus pack , for the upgraded brakes if you like sporty driving. They may have come with a different pack on later models. Mine is a 2027. If it’s a touring , pano sunroof adds light.

It took me 11 months to find an F31 with a spec that ticked the essential boxes for me; part of that was because I initially thought I wanted one with adaptive, but when driving one I found the adaptive too harsh in sport and a bit too woolly in comfort, thus I then ended up switching to trying to find one with the right spec with the normal damping as that sits somewhere between the two. So my advice would be to drive one with and without before committing to trying to find one with it because it's not that common, I'd guesstimate about 1 in 10 has it. If you really want the car to handle the Birds upgrade for these is meant to be superb, but obviously it's quite a lot of dosh to spend vs the cost of the car. I also ended up ditching electric seats off my essentials list because a.) I couldn't find one with them and b.) my wife rarely drives my car so the seat doesn't move. Going forward I'd not buy anything that didn't have a decent stereo and HUD as I love having both of those.

I have adaptive on my 440i and agree that it is unsatisfactory in both comfort and sport, RF tyres dont help either, my old 335i had Birds suspension and Quaife diff and was in a different league handing wise, very planted with excellent traction. When I have had more seat time, if the EDC doesnt grow on me I will consider going for the Bird’s suspension (I’ve already had them fit a Quaife ATB).

I've gone all in and placed an order for a new M340i Touring. Got a really good deal via Forces/NHS, several thousand cheaper than my local dealer, Broadspeed etc and a chunk off the best TRL price. Although then put some of the savings into options...

Had a few lease cars recently but this is my first "me" car. Delivery is looking like end of May, not sure if that is due to options, Individual paint or just builds slots disappearing (was originally quoted Feb/March a week ago).

Congrats, i used them, no frills but good to deal with and much cheaper than elsewhere. What spec did you go for?

Hopefully come May you will be able to use it more, mine has only done about 1,600 miles in 3 months due to lockdown etc.

Dravit grey, Shadowline, pano roof and a few practical bits - additional storage for the family (mainly for the rear USB-C ports for the kids although can't believe nets on the back of the seats or 12V socket in the boot aren't standard), tow bar, HK, park assist plus. None of the packs seemed essential and the things I really wanted are stand alone options now.

Have just sold my E91 Touring which was pretty much the perfect car, hoping this will be even better.

Will a sapphire black with tech pack m340i be enough for me? It’s a great stock deal on a 2 year lease but can’t add anymore options. Gotta give a decision tomorrow so any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

I’m coming from a 2019 a5 coupe black edition 2litre Tfsi. That had a tech pack too.

Does the bmw have heated seats for example ?

I ordered and bought mine a year ago so out of date on spec offers. Why don’t you check it out on the BMW website?

As a benchmark, this should be what "your" car has.

Note the standard features including heated seats.

And then it has the features of the tech pack.

It seems also to have SP glass.

What, inmho, it screams out as missing is panoramic sunroof

Edit: I'm assuming touring, if it's not then the sunroof (not panoramic) is not so key.

Apple Car Play

Adaptive cruise control

Different for everyone I suppose.

Yes:
Heated steering wheel.
360 cameras.
HK system
HUD
I think you should have most of these in the tech pack.
Thing's I don't need:
Electric seat adjustment
Black wheels ( It’s a black car, black wheels is too much, so replaced with BBS CC-R wheels)
Run flats (swapped to Michelin NRF)
I replaced the springs with AC Schnitzer springs, no need to but the gap on the X-drive is large and the springs are perfect, well done ACS.

The M340i is good at everything, you will love it with just the tech pack. I love driving it the car drives so beautifully but hides the speed well so watch the HUD for limits. I've owned mine since Sept 1st '20 and 4k miles later I still enjoy each mile I drive.

Did changing the tyres and springs affect your insurance? I don’t see any need to change either.

Edit - change of images to show the car clean, some might appreciate that!
Tyres no, springs no cost increase! There is no need to change the springs or tyres or change anything, it's a great car, but I drove 1k miles on the run flats and the change to NRF Michelin was remarkable terms of increase comfort, reduction in noise and an increase in grip in the cold weather. The springs, absolutely no need to change but if you would like to improve the profile, subjective of course, some may like the large gap, then ACS spring give you that benefit with little loss in comfort. There is an improvement in rigidity too, less bouncy (even with adaptive). The ACS springs don't give the car a slammed look, just a tweak, it's enough.

I made the same changes to my previous BMW, image:

I don't have a before!

M340i before:

ACS Springs -

i cant for the life of me find a onfigurator on BWM uk so i can work out what comes as standard on the M340i

reading some of the posts it suggests that electric seats are optional - is that correct

what sort of packs are recomended - i woud like some form of automated driving assistance above the bog stabndard cruise control - what pack comtains that option

You go on the 3 series configurator, select "change model" which is the first box you get to on the RHS, and select "M models". The M340i is right there.

Electric seats incl memory driver are part of the Comfort Pack, a £1950 option. Annoyingly that's a BMW UK ism. In Germany you can get this option on its own for about £1000.

I see the early M340i have now dropped to mid-30s for a decent spec car which is definitely piquing my interest in them again.

Would be interested to know what sort of lease deals people have managed to accomplish too- had a brief look at what seems to be out there but most of the widely advertised deals don't look that good.
