This car in touring form is right at the top of my list for one day.

Touring in blue with tan leather please

Bmw approved actually have these down as low as £44k already. Will be into the 30’s without too much trouble soon surely.

My FIL has had several 3 series, all suffered massive depreciation so I'd agree with you. I saw a saloon last week(not a 340) and very impressed with the styling. Last M car I had was an E46 which was quick but I bet this thing with 4WD would be a real weapon.

I was offered just under £7 off list on a 340 Xdrive when i had a nosey as them (42K) factory order. It was 41,880 from Partridge Southampton

Had my first look at a G21 in my local dealer earlier today (albeit obviously not an M340i). It was nice enough but even with a decent discount an M340i Touring is going to be at least three times what my 64-plate F31 335d's worth and, given that's still running fine at the moment (touch wood!), I suspect I might find it difficult to justify to myself the cost to change. Thinking I might use the money that was earmarked for upgrading to a G21 for something else (maybe a fun car for sunny days) and just keep the 335d as a daily....

I don’t like pissing cash away and that’s precisely what you do buying a new bmw, great cars. You need man maths...oh i’ll Own it for 5 years.

I think you chuck money away to a greater or lesser extent with almost any new car you buy!

However, I'm looking at it more from a point of view that mine's probably worth less than £15k even if I accept the potential hassle of a private sale while a well specced M340i Touring is probably going to be circa £45k post-discount. That's over £30k to change and, nice car though an M340i undoubtedly is, I'm not sure it will offer that much more as a daily driver over my 335d. Although it's 5 years old with 76k on the clock I'm sure mine would do another 2 or 3 years and 40k miles without too much trouble so I'm thinking keep it as a daily and rather than upgrade to a G21 spend the money on a second-hand fun car instead; pick the right one - say something like a 981 Boxster S - and it will also depreciate far less than a new M340i!

41,880 before or after 7k discount (I haven’t looked at pricing so admit I could probably work it out but I started typing this so I’ll finish!)

Lol after. They’re a 50k car list. Only problem is I totted up 7k in option to arrive back at 50k and, well it’s not an m3 which isn’t that much more. Kinda

Welp. I just configured one and got to 63k. Ouch. 7k discount doesn’t take any of the pain away.

I keep coming back to the 540i xdrive as a great value car vs something like this given they can be had for low 30s.. I just didn’t want something so big so the 3 would be a better size.

New m3 will be £65-70k surely though?

I'd say over 70k base and nearer 80k optioned, you can use the X3M as rough guide that's 78k base.

these things are getting silly money.

But I guess it’s £600 a month rather than £80k to most people these days.

I have a 540i xdrive. It’s a great car but as you say a bit big particularly noticeable in the supermarket car park. My PCP on it ends in 17 months so hopefully the 340’s will be available for less by then.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the prices and could be tempted to change early.

You're probably spot on with the base. The RS4 is 67k so the M3 will be around that number and the typical premium over the closes non M 3 series(340) is typically 15k but they may well load it up with options ala M5.

£6k more than I paid for mine new 3.5 years ago.

Spec looks a bit better on the new one though.

No option of heated rear seats or rear door window blinds?!
I'm looking at the German configurator, and both of those items are still options. On the heated seat options, you choose between front seat heating only, or front and rear.
I hope its a mistake on the UK configurator then!

Test drove one today. Very nice car, always difficult to get a true feel of it on a short drive though, and I didn’t ring it’s neck. Seemed very strong performance wise, not a massive difference to my M140i but traction advantage was obvious (roads were greasy) and it’s a lot more refined and quieter overall. The exhaust is not as loud, but then I remember mine getting louder after 1500 miles or so.

Interior tech is another level and fantastically comfortable seats.

I was offered a deal pretty close to TRL’s one straight away, may be some more to negotiate

My biggest concern..... is it special enough for the money? A £600 a month PCP feels like a lot.

A performance exhaust equipped C43 is far more of an event, but more expensive again.

Is the interior tech and seats any different to the 330i m sport? I am looking between the two, the sensible or the little bit more fun option.

I’d imagine it is similar if not the same. Not checked out the other models so can’t be sure.

The standard spec is well ahead on the 340. Adaptive leds standard. Limited slip diff. hUD. I’d wager the finance numbers being very close based on the 330 depreciating a lot quicker.

If fuel economy is a factor, then there's not much in it.

Had a 630i as a courtesy car the other week, and on the same commute and same driving style as my 440i it was only 2-3 mpg better at most.

And includes fair bit of dual carriageway driving at a sustained 60-70mph.
