These are such lovely cars. I can therefore see many current 5 series owners looking at cars like the 340i that will increase their desirability.

I’ve had a number of 5 series over the years and generally liked them. However IMHO the new one is just too large especially in the height department and with no 6 Cylinder ICE option.

This is exactly what I have done. I've had 3 5 Series but this time I went for an M340i instead. It feels like my E39 did in terms of size which is ideal. I can therefore see many current 5 series owners looking at cars like the 340i that will increase their desirability.
I've no idea who the new 5 Series is aimed at, but I don't think it's me.
I think it’s great on busy A roads with little to no overtaking opportunities. Just stick it on, sit back and relax. On motorways/dual carriageways it still serves its purpose, but I tend to use it less and use the standard cruise, as you find it slowing unnecessarily behind trucks and slower vehicles as you’re changing lanes to overtake. Overall I don’t think i would have a car without it now.
Another happy M340i Touring owner here. I have a 2020 (pre MHT Engine) which is almost fully loaded. Ironically the one thing it doesn't have is DAP and in hindsight I would absolutely want it for Rear Cross-path detection and BLiS if nothing else. It's pretty criminal that it doesn't have these as standard IMO. I've had one very minor bump in a carpark which cost me a new rear bumper. Yes I'm sure everybody would chime in about not relying on such gizmo's and it was my fault but it's still a long car and rear 3/4 views are not great.
The other more recent niggle I've had is stones getting stuck between the front brake disc and the heat-shield behind. The heatshield bends inwards at the bottom and it effectively becomes a bucket. The first time this happened a couple of weeks ago it sounded like I'd run over a very loose cattle grid, then followed by a horrible squeaking noise when moving. At that stage I had no idea what just happened so pulled over and phoned BMW assistance. They suggested I do a series of 5-8 emergency stops in both forward and reverse directions! I had the dog in the car so this wasn't really an option. They sent a bloke out to me and he extracted a 5mm piece of gravel from the offside front disk/heat-shield assembly. It was his fourth callout for the same thing that week. It has since happened again but this time I managed to dislodge it fairly quickly.
There's a good image of why it happens on this Bimmerpost thread:

Thanks Andy, is the lane keeping good?
Very good on main roads as long as the white lines are clearly visible as that’s what the car is looking for. Hands can be taken off the wheel for a good few seconds before the wheels LEDs light up yellow, followed by red, disengaging the cruise. Apparently it can be coded to stay on permanently hands free using bimmercode. An email from Drive the Deal landed in my inbox this morning and their deal of the month was the M340i Touring at 17.5% off list; guess the likes of TRL will be able to do a touch better which means discounts are probably getting close to pre-pandemic levels?
However, given the way list prices have increased post-discount prices are still quite a lot higher plus of course interest rates are also up for those looking to use finance. All of which means the cars are probably still looking expensive compared to four years ago....

Lead times are quite long with the touring at the mo unless dealers have build slots. Looking at how they've priced the M440i now and how much standard spec has been removed, I'd look to order this year if you're going to.
The list price / RRP of my spec went up by about £1200 between me ordering last Nov and collecting last week.
Here's mine. Collected it last week as a replacement for my F31 340i. Lovely thing, like the 340i but everything just wound up a few percent. It was a bit of a whim purchase as there was nothing amiss with the F31 but hey ho. Has a very good number of option boxes ticked including the M Performance seats which were a big part in swaying me.
About to purchase an used approved LCI M340i which has my preferred spec (carbon trim, sunroof, comfort plus) with the exception of tech plus (it only has tech pack) but wondering if I'll regret not waiting for one with the tech plus. Would any of you say tech plus is a must? There's a car with the same spec and age etc that's got the tech plus instead of tech but it's £3k more...is it worth stumping up more? I understand the tech plus comes with ACC, drive recorder and also 360 camera (the main feature I fear I'll regret not having I feel as my current car doesn't have ACC anyway). Would you say these are must haves?

Here's my Dravit grey tourer I picked up on Saturday morning.
Spec as follows :
Dravit grey
Fiona red / black merino leather
Carbon fibre interior trim
Comfort Pack
Tech Pack
Panoramic Sunroof
Absolutely love it. Had M340i's before, but this is my first touring. My first estate car in fact.
Love the colour...any of the interior as curious to see how Fiona red differs from Tarcoma red?Spec as follows :

Jealous of the M performance seats! What were the options that it included?ha03274 said:

Does it have the Head-up Display? I think it was part of the Technology Pack for pre-LCI cars, which mine is. That's one option I would now miss if my car didn't have it.Edited by ha03274 on Wednesday 6th March 15:05
