There is a tidy manual 328i sport for sale near me if that's what you are after?

If anyone wants a couple of E46 wheels often fitted to the E36 I have a couple for sale, BMW Style 44 17” alloy wheel may find them on an online auction site.

(Apologies if I’ve transgressed any official guidelines).

Like other have said, some version of the e36 are gaining value. The E36 was a bit unlucky that he had to follow the E30 which was/is a very much loved version, but then the E46 was just so stunning, that the E36 was overlooked.

As is typical, the M cars are typically the first to start going up and then the Alpina and AC Schnitzer version start to creep up. I don't think the more common variants will ever be likely to be worth much and trying to find a good clean one that's not been abused or modded is going to be hard. It was exactly the same with E30's, as it was so hard to find a 325i or 325i Sport that hadn't been messed about with.

While I'm not the biggest fan of the E36, I've always thought the styling changes Alpina made, was some of the best pieces of work Alpina have done. As I am typing this, I just remembered the first car I ever drove was an E36 328i, back when I was 12-13 in the carpark of the church my family went to. The owner who had only recently got the car, was teaching me the basics of driving as part of a youth club activity held for the kids of the church. To this day it irks my poor old man that I drove a BMW before he did!

The one you linked to 2 pages back and the one we have been discussing?

If so, reckon that is a good price for such a clean low mileage example.

Looks very nice. Good colour, good miles.

Fully priced I imagine.

Edited to add - how much would it cost to get rid of that wood?

Wow! That's how my current 323i SE looked when I got her in 1998.

I forgot that Avus Blue could look like that.

Good ones have been on the rise for a while now. Obviously starting with the M3, then after that 328i Sport and good 318is models are probably the ones to go for. Very early 325i would be a good shout too.

In some ways I've always likened them to the MK1 and MK2 Escort. I know it's a not a like-for-like comparison, but when the RWD Escorts went crazy value-wise and other RWD Fords, the E36 and subsequently E46 BMWs have been like the entry-level RWD car for many.

318is coupe
I had a 318is coupe. Silver. Perfect condition even down to the full tool kit in the boot.

Stupidly sold it 3 years ago. Numpty who bought it crashed it after 2 months. Only had third party insurance so he didn’t get it repaired.

Currently sitting, unloved, in an industrial park in Stoke on Trent. I have lost his contact number so cannot contact him to make him an offer - I want it back.

Regretted selling it the instant he drove off in it.

I've just taken the plunge & bought a 318is. Happily tucked up in my garage to be used for high days & holidays.
Will post some pics when I get a moment.

I'm the same, I had a lowish mile 1.8 merdian 306 that I stuffed into a telegraph pole, and I was more gutted at the loss of the car, than the cost of having to place it. (or the risk to life of stopping quickly and taking an airbag to the face).

I only had a lowly 318 compact but loved my E36 experience, sold on but with an indeterminate future and replaced with an E46 330ci in Imola which I have daily'd for the last three years.

Like you, I love both.

E46 is quieter, warmer, auto wipers, xenons, and clearly has a lot more get up and go. But my right foot struggles if on CC and feels very heavy.
E36 however had a raw coolness and driving position few rival, more fun to drive. Easy to get the back end out and control, lovely accelerator and steering.

I think they'll very slowly rise and then top out. Mine costs me £400 a year in insurance and a few hundred in fuel. If mine increased by £500 a year I'd be pretty happy as it would offset the cost of keeping it on the road.

Realistically, only the minters will get to decent money, including M3's. Although it would be nice if I woke up and my M3 was suddenly £20k,

Here's mine:
