I have a F30 which is fitted with "Headlight Courtesy Delay". According to the hand-book this feature is activated when I turn off the ignition and pull the headlight flasher stalk. The low beam headlights should then stay on for a set period of time.

My problem is that this does not work. When I pull the flasher stalk it just flashes the main beam. However, if I leave the ignition switched off for about ten minutes and then try the the courtesy delay, it then works perfectly.

I can speed up the process by pressing the central locking button of the remote zapper while still in the car, and then unlocking it again with the zapper. The courtesy delay will then work perfectly when I pull the flasher stalk and get out of the car.

I have gone into "settings" on the i-drive and I see the courtesy delay is set to sixty seconds which I think is the maximum, but there is nothing else I can adjust other than turning off the courtesy delay.

Is it me or is it the car?

Just had a quick look at the app (manual)... And it says ‘Radio ready state’ needs to be off.

Are you complying with the various conditions to create that ?

Sounds like your lights are currently working after the 8 minute timeout.

I just tried it on mine and it worked.
And I always have radio , music off if that matches with the above suggestion.

Just tried it myself for the first time.

With a running car.....
Step 1, Press stop/start to turn off engine.
Step 2, Press stop/start to turn off ignition.
Step 3, Flash lights smile

I suspect like me, the OP normally completes step 1, then gets out of the car and locks it. If you flash the lights between steps 1 and 2, you just get a momentary flash.

You’ll know when you’ve completed step 2, as the interior lights will illuminate.

Yup, tried it on the F36 last night because of this thread, same thing with no issues.

It always bothered me why the radio stayed on until I locked the car until I discovered how to turn off the car properly!

Thanks to everyone and sorry for being a little slow getting back.

Yes, the secret is pressing the stop/start twice as described by all and I have it working now. Another clue that I noticed is that the red "brake" light near the centre of the dash stays on for the Eight minutes before the ignition shuts down.

Wow. My biggest gripe with these cars was the radio always staying on when I parked up. As soon as you open the door the music blasts down the street. Consequently I never use the radio.

I've had these cars for 6 years and only ever tap the off button once. Never occurred to me I might need to do it twice!
