I am considering changing my F31 320d Msport for a G31 530d M sport. I was wondering if anyone who has driven both could comment on how the ride quality compares? My F31 is running on 19s and non-runflats - quite of the few of the G31s I have seen advertised have the Msport plus pack which includes the excellent HK audio but also 20" wheels which look great, but I wonder about the ride. I find the ride of my car ok, but I certainly wouldn't want it any firmer on our dire roads. Thoughts anyone? Thanks!

G31 rides significantly better than an F31, even with the 20’s and runflats. If you can find one with Adaptive Damping as well, this also makes a big difference, but even without it I have never found a G31 too harsh for the road.

I did just that: My F31 was on 19” RFT with adaptive suspension, and my G31 is currently on 19” winter RFT (20” summer RFT) and adaptive drive (this is an upgrade over the adaptive of the F31, as it also includes the active roll bars and gps prediction).

The G31 is like a flying carpet, it is really incredible how supple and smooth it rides! It was the main reason for changing, even if the F31 was not bad, but the overall refinement and much lower road noise is just on another level.

+1 from me too

Ran a F31 335d for 2y and found it rode OK although the handling was awful

A 'new' 520d on a 24h test drive was just so much better on every level

Well apart from giving it the beans from a standing start.............

Haven’t had both those cars, but I’ve had an F34 and currently have an F36. Just returned a G30 520d M Sport hire car and it drives like much more of a barge than the others. Steering felt slower and heavier, although the ride was comfier overall due to 18s and softer suspension.

I had a G20 curtesy car on 20’s for 2 days and found the ride quite poor. My F31 is on 18 Non-RFT so deals with bumps so much better than the 19’s.
I bought a set of 19’s, but they’re in the garage where they’ll stay!
On good tarmac the G20 is like a flying carpet, but I live out in the sticks so bumpy B roads I found the G20 nearly as bad as my old type r.
