Ok, you all seem to feel it’s standard and not part of the M-Technic pack. I just wonder why BMW say different...
Quoting myself from earlier in the thread on all the standard kit - unless it's changed...?Funk said:
I've gone through a PDF for April 2020 for the 8-series and as far as I can see, here's the most comprehensive list of what's standard:
Edit: Ah! I see from the BMW configurator that it says this:- Active Aerodynamics

"M Sport differential (series standard on 840i models)"
The 840d and the M850i both get X-drive, presumably the diff setup is different because of that?

It’s not standard on the 840d so I guess that’s why it’s mentioned in that list.
If I decode my VIN it lists S2T4 “M Sport Differential” so it’s definitely on there.

I'm still a bit disappointed I didn't get the M-piping on the seats - doesn't look like any of the ones I've seen from PHers have got it although it's still listed as standard on the BMW configurator.
I have it but it's only on a small area, barely noticeable.Funk said:

Haven't had much time to familiarise yet, just got linked up to my connected drive account and paired my phone. Happy to say it offered to use android auto as soon as the bluetooth had paired. Hope it's less laggy and temperamental connection wise than apple car play that I've been trying out on our other car and an iPhone 7.

Is android auto available over Bluetooth then? My limited experience is with the missus' Q5 and that seems to require the phone to be connected via a cable to use AA.
Anyone know if the update needs to be done via a dealer to enable AA or or should it be a remote update?
AA will be added with the latest iDrive update. It's wireless so won't need a cable plugging in. At the moment it's only installable by the dealer but people are saying it'll be available as an 'over the air' update later this year.Anyone know if the update needs to be done via a dealer to enable AA or or should it be a remote update?
Not sure if it's Bluetooth it uses as a connection protocol.
Cheers, my car is going to the dealer tomorrow for the third attempt at replacing the b pillar trim, will see if they can do an update whilst it's there. I do like android auto, I don't know why manufacturers spend so much developing their own UIs when Android and IOS versions generally work better!
Mine's in on the 15th for the B-pillar trim. I've also had intermittent success with the voice and gestures on my car so going to ask them put the latest version on then and see if that helps.
I've actually subscribed to Spotify Premium in order to use the music streaming functions natively so I'm actually not so fussed about AA now. I do agree that it seems pointless developing a whole OS for a car only to then have people use AA instead. You also have to 'swap back and forth' in order to use any of the car features (which AA on your phone can't control) so it's a bit of a bodge. I'd far rather they use Android natively to run the whole thing and you just log in to that as another device on your account rather than faffing with linking your phone etc. Also on some of the larger displays you'll only get AA on the middle of it as it doesn't know how to scale to fit
I think the days of car makers being able to rinse people for 'upgraded' nav or charging for map updates etc are limited though, especially when stuff like Google Maps works so well for free.
