Nice one Simon. I've enquired as that's slightly cheaper than the GC deal I was looking at and 2 doors is fine for me.
Stratstone are also offering a 3 + 23 profile at £499. I'm tempted as I prefer the looks but could use the extra space that the Gran Coupe provides confused
I prefer the looks of the coupe but like you I'll get frustrated at the lack of space - if you've had a look in the coupe the rear seats aren't really usable by an adult (certainly not for very long!). It's more of a 2+2 whereas the GC is roomy for four with option for a fifth if needed.

Of course you're quite right! I'm just getting frustrated by the lack of traction on the Gran Coupe after a week of inactivity since submitting my order!

I've been dealing with Bradley over there and he's been ace; I'm hoping that patience will be virtuous now...!

Daniel Poole from G2L just emailed me as he hs reutrned from annual leave. My car was quoted correctly before the finance company removed that tab (thus requiring set up on a new system) so my car order is confirmed as accepted and with the factory (asked for an order number). My request for delivery on Friday 3rd April is also in place as is an ask (demand!) for the dealer not to wash or clean the car.

If you were outside that initial set of orders then you need quoting on that new system which still isnt in place. I would encourage you to ask for an update from your contact at G2L to see what is going on.
Why the strong demand for them not to wash the car?
Most likely because he doesn’t want to spend the first weekend of “ownership” polishing out the swirl marks!

Exactly this. Paint will be ruined before I get it. I never let a dealer wash or clean my car before delivery or at servicing. I've seen a single bucket and a sponge being used so many times it would make your head spin.
Only last week I was having a nosey at Liverpool BMW and the guy going round washing the cars was taking a soapy wet sponge to a dry car. Not even a rinse first.

Totally agree. Even the service advisor at my local dealer said he didn’t blame me for not letting them near my car with a bucket!

I’ve not had my admin fee invoice yet but I spoke to G2L today and it’s coming soon. I had a concern to begin with as they said their system was saying May but apparently it needs updating and my car is actually due at the dealer by week 9. Like Simon, I’m waiting on the order number.

Can I ask when you put the order in and submitted your credit details to G2L?

I did it a week ago and had a much more vague answer to an email today, so I have no idea when/whether I’ll get a car from them.

Interesting thanks. That’s 2/3 days ahead of me.

Coupe offer based on 8k per annum just popped up on my facebook
Simon - thanks for posting this!

My local dealer offered me a 840i 2 door coupe with £5k down and £599 x 35!!. I walked into my local dealer today armed with this quote and hey presto... they matched the deal!

This is my major concern. The rear seats are really unusable - do I really need to let the kids in the car? hmmmmm....

It seems tighter back there than on my S5 coupe. Had two B9 S5s over the last 3 years and I think the back seats were used twice so far. No kids and wife has always had a 4 door so never been much of a problem.

Have to say now I know the S5 has an end date soon ive started driving it quite hard again and stretch its legs. I reckon I'll miss it - something I never felt when the Golf R went back.

Is it really that much tighter than an S5, despite being ~20cm longer?

I have a B8 S5 cab and the rear seats are only really ok for quite short journeys...anything smaller would definitely be useless!

The Stratstone deal is with BMW financial services. Unless one’s credit rating is exceptional you won’t be accepted. Many HNWI I know have been turned down on previous BMW FS deals as they had too many lines of credit open!

Not sure I'm only judging from looking. The seats look more like 2 plus 2 seats whereas the S5 seats are more like standard seats.

For those coming from S5 sportback how does the 8 series GC compare size wise - in terms of rear seats and boot?

Think the 8 series is very similar to the 6 series I have. The rear seats are very much a 2+2 configuration - there’s more room in the back of a 4 series, despite the 6 being a larger car... I didn’t check, but I expect the 8 is similar.

ETA: this is the coupe I’m talking about. The GC has a normal saloon car amount of space in the back.

480 vs 440 litres i believe but obviously with a far smaller opening. Rear seats in the A5 are more a 3 seater whereas the 8 GC has 2 seperate seats with a rather chunky centre console. Possible to seat 3 in the back but it wouldnt be ideal.

The 8 GC is 3 inches taller, 1.5 inches wider and 10 inches longer than the 2 door, of which 8 inches is in the wheelbase and I believe goes entirely into the back seats.

I've not seen an 8 GC yet, but I can tell you that my 6 GC is driven as a family car and has been to Italy and back with two teenagers in the back (I'm 6 foot tall in the front). It has 'enough' room, though it's not a 7 series in space.

By comparison, my brother had a 2 door 6 series, he's shorter and with smaller kids and he sold it as he found it didn't have enough room. The rear is very much more compromised in the 2 door and the legroom very small indeed if at all depending on the driver/passengers size.

A GC is a very capable family car for four (and five occasionally), a 2 door is not and is only really for occasional use of the rear.
