I have had little luck with G2L getting back to me so I challenged the local dealer to match the deals online and the best they could do was:
£4k down, £399 pm x 35

But this was for the based 840i 2 door coupe. Took it for a test drive and loved it. Even the size was not bothering me at all and the engine is great. But.... as has been mentioned on here before the back is terrible. I know it is not targeted as a family load lugger but the seats are practically unusable.

I pushed the dealer to match the deal on the GC as it is a different proposition altogether in the back...no luck, as they wanted another £100 pm for the GC!!! Looks like I am out.
Stratstone
£3591 down
£399 a month
Total over two years £12768
£12,768 / £71840 * 100 = 17.77%

That is for the Coupe. So still a good deal, if you noticed my previous posts, they might be forcing you to pay the £465 road tax in the second year.
I have been to a few dealers, they reckon the deal is a mistake and i should check with Stratstone it includes VAT and road tax. One dealer matched it, but said no where in the contract does it mention road tax. Since it was 18% car discount, they couldn't authorise the deal today and have to wait for the big boss to approve it tomorrow, not holding out much hope on that one.

Getting £1k per year and £1k excess for insurance though! 31 and in the S61 area. If i up my excess to £1.3k it goes down to £750 a year. A risk. Had a golf R stolen within the last year, when i had my C63 it got keyed, hoping i wont have to claim. Going to try BMW insurance tomorrow.

Lastly, probably a question for Simon. If you ask the dealer not to wash the car and leave the protective film on, have you still needed to polish the paint afterwards? I would hope it would not have any swirls since it should never been washed. So then can just wash and decontaminate with chemicals.

Thought about getting this car detailed, but as it isnt mine, seems like a waste of money. If you have had cars delivered like this before, what is the paintwork actually like on handover?

Got car wash OCD and actually use the one bucket many mitts method, which is even more OCD than the two bucket wash!
Use double sided mitts, one side to wash one panel, turn it over, do the next panel, then put it in a bucket and dont use it again until its machine washed.
Use more mitts for the rest of the car. Seems safer than the two bucket wash to me.

Regards dealer wash, detailing etc..........

If you specifically ask for the protective film to be left on its 99% not going to have any form of swirl marks. The only way that will happen is if they have picked something up at the quality control stage regards the paint and they try to sort it out before signing it off. It can still be delivered with marks etc on areas that are not covered. Examples, my Golf R had a scuff on the rear C pillar and my first S5 a scuff on the arch. My guess on the Golf was a security guard walking between the cars on the train transporter had caught it with his security badge when squeezing between the cars. No idea on the S5.

On one hand I know what you mean by detailing a lease car but most people never own their cars. My Golf R was a lease as were my two S5's and I had new car prep and ceramic coating done on them all with annual top ups. Obviously it gives wow factor when you go pick it up post detail but the main thing for me is it stays that way when you wash it. very easy to clean, some resistance to chips and swirls etc.

I could post some pics of before and after on my previous cars regards detailing but not sure the group wants to see half a dozen pics of cars that are not the new 840!

Curious on the protective film - is this literally the white or blue plastic sheeting I see on some panels of new cars before PDI and you just peel it off yourself and then go over it with glue and tar remover?

I’ve never tried a ‘home’ ceramic coating, but I’d be able to decontaminate, wash and wax myself.

Yes thats right on the sheeting. You need to polish etc before doing a ceramic but doing a proper deconatminate, tar and fallout remover, pre-wash, foam, wash etc will get good results. I would go with Valet Pro Dragons Breath and Auto Finesse Obliterate. One of the main culprets is iron filings from the train brakes - cars are transported from factory to port on large trains and the iron fallout settles on the paint. A dealer wont decontaminate the car as part of the PDI so they take a sponge and rub those filings all over your paint (giving it a nice exfoliation) resulting in swirls before the car reaches you.

Dragons Breath is great at removing this type of fallout. AF Obliterate is better to get glue residue off from the wrapping and for tar deposits further down the line. If you were just going to buy one id go Dragons Breath. Smells terrible but works really well.

Concious this might be boring everyone else to death so PM me for a detailing conversation if you want!

Happy to share any info on products, cleaning techniques etc if anyone is interested. Im not a pro by any means but have learned quite a bit over the years from the guy who does my car.

Ive given Select and G2L a heads up there is a lot of frustration building and some sort of update is needed if if there is no news.

My first S5 arrived like this - film/sheeting doesnt cover everything....

G2L - applied on Thursday last week. Finance approved this morning.

Bring it on! biggrin

All those doubting G2L - hang in there - they are doing the work in the back ground but just been inundated with these orders. I have been speaking to James Nutt who has been fab throughout. Replies to emails almost instantly.

Those who have ordered get on the phone to them this morning. I will be paying £31.25 over 23 months extra due to the increase in tax but still cheap as chips especially when main dealers are telling me this deal is impossible.

What are peoples opinions on the Chromeline exterior? I think it looks great on the sapphire black and sonic blue but not too keen on the chrome it adds to the wing mirrors.

I'm not a fan personally. I think it accentuate an already awkard window line.

I think it looks bland without it. Appreciate that these are of the 2dr.

I've gone for chrome, partly because the black not matching the grill and the exhaust trims winds me up but also I've gone for a dark colour and I think it works well IMO. Very subjective - I really like the satin chrome on my current S5 Sportback.

The M8 GC special edition that Schmee has been showing on his channel looks nice with the lighter trim (albeit that's not chrome but some sort of satin bronze finish).

Not a fan personally. It does suit the coupe more as the most awkward part of the design is the way the window comes to an abrupt end instead of a tapered off look. Looks far worse on the GC.

If you are having silver wheels and then the silver side vents that breaks things up enough for me on the dark colours.

Its this part of the design I dont like - it just stops and doesnt match the roofline very well. The chrome really makes this stand out.

As a sidenote the M8's are seriously over priced in my view and dont actually sound as good as an M850. I would rather take an M5 Comp for half the price.

Received finance documents to sign and return, but I have a problem where my address doesn't match that of my driving licence due to a new build property and the address not being listed yet. Is there anything I can do? Surely it can be explained? I have emailed Lucy asking what to do.

Sorry, I thought we were talking GC. I prefer it on the coupe, and with that wheel option.

Thanks Simon - I'm fairly au fait with the detailing basics (I use EZ Car Care products mostly, so have fallout remover amongst others). What I don't have is a machine polisher - I've always polished by hand thus far as I've been scared of damaging the paint.

Just saw a Barcelona Blue coupe on London Bridge. Quite a handsome, understated colour. Not enough to shift me from Sonic blue, but looked nice, even on a fairly grey London day.

I was asking about the GC but could only find relevant pics for the coupe! I like it but it's personal taste I guess.
