I can empathise. It's horrible when things like this happen. I hope the dealer engages and deals with it in the right way.
Also hopefully minor damage and easily repairable with no lasting detriment.

OP.

What you've got to remember / assume is that the dealer is NOT trustworthy. They will want to fix your car for the lowest possible cost. You should 100% go and see the car to see what damage has been done and agree the repair.

If you don't you're potentially going to be short changed.
This is sensible advice, you are also well within your rights to insist they use a bodyshop of your choosing too. At the very least I'd be wanting detailed photos of the damage and a full explanation of what caused the crash. It's understandable you might not be able to drop everything and go straight there but I'd agree with John and be wary over what the dealer says on the phone.

Your car has now been accident damaged, depending what a future buyer may notice this could well affect it's resale value. Lots to consider.

You would only be able to have the right to choose body shop if you/your insurer was paying to fix

Thanks. Emailed their customer service this morning, not heard anything back yet.
Will give them until midday before I reach out to bmw Uk.
Good luck with that, they've been useless for me.

Bought a BMW approved bike 4 months ago, faulty from day one, not had use of it since.

Customer services at BMW UK not doing anything.

Did he crash into another car? At least that way it can potentially have been a genuine accident.

If not, it's pretty embarrassing for the tech as he was quite clearly hooning around in someone else's car.

I'd be fuming.

The damage will affect the future value.
I think I would be demanding that they replace my car with an equivalent, undamaged one. Or at least buy that damaged one off you at an agreed pre-damage price.

Either way, it isnt just a repair you need, it is compensation for the lower future value and hassle/ inconvemience.

I don't think this is correct

Laughable.
Sit at home and wait for an email .rolleyes

I really don't know why folk go to the trouble of asking for advice then completely ignoring it.

I'd at least want pictures and a proper explanation, but as anybody will tell you, by the time you get photographs emailed, you may as well have gone down and seen for yourself.

That depends entirely on what the T&C's are for the servicing, if there are any. If not then it's all a bit complicated, as there's no specific contract in place like there would be with an insurance claim.

To be quite honest I'd be tempted to get the car transported somewhere of my choice, then get the repairer to invoice the dealer directly.

To the OP

Do you know what damage has been caused? Has the dealership described it as minor or is it potentially worse?

I have to agree with the general tone of response - you need to be a bit more on the front foot - seeing the damage first hand ASAP is good advice IMO. Ultimately this will impact your cars value.

Has the dealer offered a suitable replacement car until yours is repaired?

I feel your pain OP. Do people generally authorise dealers to drive their cars? When I have had main dealer services I have always expressly forbid them to drive the car (or wash it) - if it needs a test drive then I will go with them.
Do they bring their tools out to the car park ?

What are you going to do when you get to the Bodyshop ?

Point at a demolished front end, and tell them “That’ll need repairing”
No, I'd want to asses whether there was any structural damage too as opposed to just a dented wing etc.

As others have said, you need to see what's happened to be able to check it once repaired.

These cars are climbing in value and now your's will have a bad history. I'd be fuming and demand a written explanation and detailed photographs before any repairs start. Even if they repair it to excellent standards the resale value will be diminished.
It might be worth seeking legal advice on this.
Sorry this has happened! Good luck with it all.

Ring them. Ring them now and speak to the DP.
Either this or head straight down to the dealership immediately to start the resolution process in person.
Why Ring them?

Go straight down there. That would be my immediate reaction.

If they repair it to excellent standards only the op , garage and a possible would be future buyer of the car that's reading this thread will know .
And considering he's had the car a long time he's probably not looking to sell anytime soon .

I'd be wanting to know if another car was involved, at the very least. Potential insurance liability? What are the circs - any chance of a speeding notice through the post..

Dodgy as hell, i'd be down there right away too and lean on them hard.
