I'd love to know what having an explanation in writing will resolve, or what driving down to to garage and having a shout at someone will achieve?

The OP seems to be dealing with the situation in a calm and reasonable manner. The car will be repaired, and the OP will likely get a load of free servicing thrown at him to compensate him for the trouble.

Unless the car is a right off. There is no way he's getting a new car. Someone fked up. Going full diva from the outset is not the best way to get the situation resolved.

You need to see the car immediately before they start stripping it down to make it appear less smashed. It could be an obvious write off that they want to repair anyway.

I would advise you want meet the dealer principal, explain that it is you're pride & joy & you had chosen this dealer because of personal recommendations etc. Be polite & professional & explain that you want you're car repaired by an approved bmw bodyshop with new warranty parts etc. Request to visit the bodyshop be part of the re build process visiting at regular stages. Try & get to meet the bodyshop manager to get him on side. If I was the bodyshop manager I would enjoy a job like this , to bring the z4 back to as new condition as reasonable possible . I would also be keen for a replacement bmw loan car like an M135i . hopefully every cloud has a silver lining. Good luck.

The OP has taken this very well - I'd be going absolutely mental if a main dealer did that to my Z4MC. mad

Which is another reason why I only use BMW Indys these days who worked on them at main dealers when they were new, instead of risking them getting driven or worked on by people who were still at school back then!

How do you lose any car at 30 unless you are going for it, even in the rain? Assuming the Z3M needs to be properly warmed up like the Z4M before giving it the beans I'd be concerned about potential engine damage too.

I just hope the OPs car gets fixed properly.

Do we know what the actual damage is yet?

I think we’re all assuming the worst when it may just be a scuff.

Actually nobody has mentioned having a shouting match.

I think you will find those of us who suggested he get down there hot-foot were all doing so such that he sees the actual damage before hand so that he can then see that the repair is up-to-scratch.

OP.

What you've got to remember / assume is that the dealer is NOT trustworthy. They will want to fix your car for the lowest possible cost. You should 100% go and see the car to see what damage has been done and agree the repair.

If you don't you're potentially going to be short changed.
THIS! As soon as they told me they'd had an accident in the car I would have had it collected from them. Unless it's extremely light damage it needs to be repaired INDEPENDENTLY of that dealer or the group they are in. Your own insurance will handle it.

Handling this sort of thing by email, is a great way to ease your mind and give time to enjoy something else

The damage will affect the future value.
I think I would be demanding that they replace my car with an equivalent, undamaged one. Or at least buy that damaged one off you at an agreed pre-damage price.

Either way, it isnt just a repair you need, it is compensation for the lower future value and hassle/ inconvemience.

Some of these comments are amusing! There's no suggestion it's a bad accident, people going on about future values, going after the dealer with pitchforks etc, it could be fairly minor for all we know. Don't get me wrong, I'd be straight down there to have a look and expect it sorted but I'd not be going mad just yet. Unless it's been smashed into a million pieces then a decent repair will result in no issues going forwards.

I feel your pain OP. Do people generally authorise dealers to drive their cars? When I have had main dealer services I have always expressly forbid them to drive the car (or wash it) - if it needs a test drive then I will go with them.
First I've heard of anyone being like that, I'd rather let them crack on with the work rather than spending my time being driven about in my own car and hanging about a garage. I'd get fed up very quickly, particularly with stuff that needs frequent test drives.

Yep totally agree- I'd want it sorting properly, but I wouldn't be killing the DP's dog just yet...

This story is fake. The linked thread is probably all made up too.

I am in disbelief, if I had posted this I would have been able to supply images the same day - there is no way I would have sat on my laurels or not gone down to the dealer. It is your own property, they cannot keep you from it / away from it. Any refusal to allow you to immediately have it lifted / towed away is theft.

No updates from OP at all.

From the contual put downs and jokes made of my situation, I've decided not to post on here anymore. I really hope that this scenario does not happen to another enthusiast.
