My girlfriend has a F30 330d and I have a F11 530d, same engine, same generation of car. The wind noise in the F30 above 50mph is quite noticeable and actually annoying above 70mph. Even the engine noise is harsher at lower speeds. The F11 is very very quiet and refined in comparison.

I had an E39 540i and I know you'd be disappointed in the F30\31 if that's what you're hoping for. 330d is still a great car and wish my F11 had X-Drive. No experience of the G20/21, but have driven a few G30's and they are very similar to the F10/F11 in terms of refinement, not much in it, but I'd think\hope the new G20/21 is a jump above the F30, much like the F10\11 was to the E60/61 (and I had two of those).
Thanks for the replies re "noise". Quite disappointing, I've always wanted a 3 but every opportunity seems to get foiled...

Btw, my parents have an E91 pre-LCI and that isn't noticeably more noisy at speed (up to ~100mph) than my E39. So does this mean F31s are actually noisier than E91s? A step back in this sense?

I don't understand why people are so focussed on quickly aging "tech" or things like soft vs hard plastic around the cabin as indications of "better". But aspects such as comfort / vibrations / noise are not brought into the mix.

And on this note, isn't one of the main improvements in G20 vs F30 the rolling refinement? From my (4hrs) experience a pre-LCI F31, it had a lot of road and wind noise making conversation even at ~70mph difficult front to rear.

From what I've read this is much improved in the G20/1? Genuine question, as I'd love an F31 but would be very dissapointed if its noisier than my E39. I do long road-trips where, over many hours driving, noise is one of the large elements of fatigue.
The G20 over-suppresses noise. There are strategically placed acoustic foam pads throughout the car. The cabin felt too pressurised for my liking. It reminded me of my Tesla Model S. Have a read up on Tesla cabin pressure. Yes you can have a conversation. Yes the stereo sounds better and therefore a lower powered amplifier is used. However, after a few hours the seat felt hard and I had to crack a window open. In fairness I have noticed cabin pressure issues were slightly decreased with air con on. With all the electronic nannies and single buttons being replaced by three sub menus... it seemed less driver focused to me. Other than people asking me whether it was a Lexus when I was getting the shopping out stood in front of the badge... I really didn’t connect with the car. The over engineered thing is not exclusive to BMW. The new S class will be a hoot with tech.
