I always enjoy looking at your lovely and clean cars Sam. They always look so well. cool

I washed the M4 last Saturday, but because of that dusty/sandy rain that we had I had to wash it again on Monday!

Hoping I’ve solve my intermittent rattle from the rear….

This was under the rear bench.
hehe

Not great news from the E91 POV...

Wife driving home today, apparently battery light came on and steering v heavy. Just about got it back home into the drive. (She also mentioned a whirring sound!?)

Am assuming alternator fail.

How far can you drive with a fully charged battery and non functioning alternator?
Those following the E91 thread will know, it wasn't an alternator failure....

Luckily had the required parts in the garage and changed the belt, tensioner and pulley today. My first belt change, so quite happy about it.

Cheers Lee. The dust is horrible and once it rains, the car just looks pants.

One of the benefits of having someone work on my car for me is that it always gets dropped off fully valeted, I guess the corresponding downside is the hole in my wallet to get the work done hehe

Have had mine back today with two fully functioning keys, some new PS5s on the rear and a new ABS sensor - and of course the aforementioned valet - and my wallet is considerably lighter, although not as much lighter as I was expecting. After it being on the drive / in a workshop for 3 weeks it's bloody brilliant to get out in it again.

Another nice evening for washing cars; gave the 125i a quick once over because it looked st after dust and a bit of rain at the weekend.

I’ve got quite a few jobs that I need to crack on with on the 125i;

This weekend is an interim oil change, diff oil and gearbox oil.

I need to do the starter motor still (sat in the garage), paint the rear callipers, remove the interior and detail it properly plus it’ll need new disc and pads on the rear soon.
You're slacking... What you playin' at?

Oh...
Yup, both mine and the wife's Racing Jazz are filthy with dust (bird cack on the wife's too) laugh

It's been hot n dry here but dusty as hell and forecast to rain Friday onwards, so no idea when I'll be washing them next...

They'll have to do for now!

Plus side is they're both spotless inside biggrin

Can anyone recommend a long flat jack sufficient for the central under the engine jack point please?

It's a bit of a mare trying to do it with my cheap halfords jack (on a F10). I don't think the standard flat ones are long enough but not sure in all honesty, so hoping someone on here has come up with a cheap enough solution.

I use the Halfords Advanced jack on my e91, and drive it into a couple of pieces of 6x2 to get enough clearance underneath.

I think Laser do miniature ramps that do the same job.

These are what I use:

Been perfect for every E39 I've worked on and my E65/F01 7 series too thumbup

Fit my pals OEM Hella headlights to my 540i this afternoon

His M5 has had catastrophic engine failure described as 'th'engines shat itself lad' by his mechanic laugh

So it's off the road for the foreseeable future (hence why he's just gone and bought a local E46 325i touring with all the bells & whistles (and a fair bit of front arch rust, but none on the rears weirdly)!

Anyways; his loss is my gain as my headlights, as good a condition they are, the adjusters are fubar etc and that's out of my remit!

Check out Robs He39light refurbishing on FB if you'd like to get you originals rebuild and restored.

I'll be getting Darren Foden in St Helen's to sort me a set; he does a full bi-xenon upgrade on them now as most of the time, at the age the headlights are at, the reflectors have lost their reflectiveness, so sometimes refurbing the headlights is a waste of money & time anyways...

Lucky that my pals are only 2 years old as his original set went the way of the dodo

Towed with it down to the FOS, 22mpg from the M40i which I though was pretty good…it towed level, even if the photo shows otherwise!

Bucket and spade campsite - 20mins from FOS and fantastic.

Gave my other half’s 125i an interim oil change (it reckons 9k until the next one).

I still need to do the diff and gearbox oil, but I’ll do that this weekend when I have more time. The diff oil is going to be an absolute ball ache due to the chassis bracing being a cab. Can’t wait to try and get those bolts undone for the first time in 13 years….joy.
