Unsorned the M5, only for it to go into limp mode on it's second journey, limited 2000RPM and 30MPH on a dual carriage way with no layby isn't fun.

8 restarts and the engine came back to normal life, just need to scan for the error code that caused it, but presuming it's a throttle position senor or throttle actuator at fault.

Local specialist does have a free slot until the 20th, so hope it behaves again once this weather has past.

Hmm, is that an ACC equipped speedo with the outer LED ring? Or just backlight bleeding, can't tell

They are superb pads... I'd have fitted them if they were in stock with Autodoc, but they weren't... They are now though. Might get them in to spug away etc...

Everyone I've recommended them to and they've bought/fitted them are very pleased with them
How do you find Autodoc? I believe delivery may be on the slow side but are the parts OEM? Just looking at prices it seems a little bit too good to be true.

Fine; rarely had any issues and the parts are genuine...

They're able to get them to good prices because they sell so many..

Just delivery is woefully slow at times; so if you're desperate, they're to be avoided

Just light bleeding, as this is what they are like in daylight

Though funnily enough, when googling the error code, I did come across these E39 digital clocks;

This is the fault code being recorded

Sometimes the delivery is quick and I’ve had parts in a week or so, my last order took ages albeit the delay seemed to be at their warehouse and once shipped it didn’t take too long.

Prices fluctuate quite a lot and are usually better via the app. Mondays seem to be one of the cheaper days.

Very jealous, that is peak BMW for me. The carbon plenum is automotive art, both visually and aurally.

Basically engine porn isn't it?

Haven't driven mine for a few days as due to the weather have been using the crusty old Civic - however thanks to a small inheritance and some good grace from SWMBO, I've been given a budget to do some preventative maintenance and some upgrades on the 125i. The water pump is 168k old and the starter motor sounds a bit weak if it hasn't been used in a while, but other than that it appears the world is my oyster smile

Any idea what springs work well with Sachs OEM+ dampers? smile

Retrofitted Apple Carplay to my 2007 335i *

  • When i say fitted i mean installed but couldnt get the screen to actually light up.
Froze my fingers. fking stupid little clips to take out. No slack in the harness so awkward.

Dropped the main unit and it slipped off the protective sheet and scratched the area next to the gear lever.

Patience gone. Rag gone. Too cold.

Returned to standard.

If anyone has fitted a CCC carplay unit retrospectively and has any advice then please shout!

What retrofit did you fit?

Assuming that you have a new screen like with the Andream jobbies, you need to be careful which connection is plugged in first. The VCDS (pink plug) has to be connecting first or it can kill the screen. Getting the cables back in was a pig if I recall.

Yet another clean for my 335i. After the snow this week it was minging and the weeks were full of grit etc. I need to change the brake fluid tomorrow and there was no way I was messing with the wheels as they were!

I also gave the engine a wipe over and cleaned the underside of the bonnet which was a bit grim.

Because it’s been so cold I did ask BMW for a price….£112. No tah. I’ll just deal with it tomorrow.

I also need to clean the 125i tomorrow and change the oil.

I attempted this one:

It uses the OEM screen.

My brake fluid change cost me £52-10, including a £14 service scope. Yes, at a BMW main dealer.

My F31 is in for the brake fluid service on Tuesday afternoon.

£65 all in with a full health check on the car...

Seems it's dealer by dealer

It must be that time. Just ordered some ATE Typ200 fluid for both E36 and E91, and new hoses all round for the E36. At 30 years old they could do with changing really.

I also checked BMW prices for a jolly, £115 also. That’s BMW in Reading.

Well, today I went out with my spray bottle of soapy water to see what was going on with the apparent slow puncture that popped up on my last Scotland trip on the 640d's nsr and found two massive cracks in the barrel of the alloy. I guess that'll be it. Didn't bother with the soapy water. Bloody Scottish roads.

To be fair, I don't know whether there could have been a slow puncture first that led to the cracks, seems a bit odd that a rear should go first. It started raining, so I haven't checked any of the other wheels, but they were all holding air fine when the pressure alert went off.

Gutted, because a. money and b. I really liked those wheels. There's no singles for sale, and the cheapest full set looks to be well over 2 grand. I know I could probably get it welded, but I have a policy of not buying welded wheels generally, and I'm not about to have a set on my long motorway journey car. And I could ideally do with it being usable on Wednesday.

Currently looking at a set I quite like, which I could get before Weds. They've got ditchfinders but I can live with them for one trip, then I'll get the old tyres swapped over and replace the run-flat that ran flat. Ugh.

That’s sodding cheap; cheaper than my local indy.

Sytner quoted me exactly what the BMW service website quotes for the work.

It cost me a tenner for OE fluid and a bit of my time this afternoon.
