Put it up for sale oh well onwards and upwards!
If money and space weren’t an object I would have kept it. I’ve sold it to a friend so will still be servicing it. It’s gone up in value since I bought it and if it remains looked after I think the value will increase as old E46s rust away, go to Eastern Europe or turn into drift sheds.Over the weekend I replaced the broken engine partition on the X5
Before:
After: Almost £300 worth of plastic.
Replaced these old air filters:
(In doing so identified that one of the clips at the back is missing, thought I'd be clever and swap it with one on my Z4's N52 but unfortunately it was too big. Can't seem to find those clips listed on RealOEM which is v annoying.)
It helps to have an Alpina rep alloy to stand on to do maintenance on this car if you're a short arse like me.
Replaced the 18 inch alloys with winters to 20 inch with summers.
And after all that discovered this annoying rattle

You do need to keep on top of it if you plan for it to be a daily.

Can I ask what paint you used please.
I'm in the process of changing discs and pads, so nice shiny discs, but the calipers are showing all of their 17 years of age at the moment and would be nice to tidy them up a bit while everything is apart.
Callipers were painted with POR-15 calliper paint which I had left over from painting the callipers on her last car. The retaining clips were painted with black Hammerite.I'm in the process of changing discs and pads, so nice shiny discs, but the calipers are showing all of their 17 years of age at the moment and would be nice to tidy them up a bit while everything is apart.
Thanks again.
Ordered ATE Ceramic pads all round for my Z4 Coupe.
Not sure whats on it currently but they give off a serious amount of dust - probably not helped by there being ventilated drilled discs on it.
The novelty of cleaning the alloys after every time the car is taken out for a run has worn off.
Ceramic pads seem to reduce brake dust significantly, so fingers crossed.

Both cars looking good Deep Thought.
I helped a mate change his transmission fluid in his 530d yesterday; a stinky and messy job. We don’t appear to have ballsed it up because he said it was driving better on a quick test drive afterwards.
Removed this little sucker from my 130 while I was over.
Gear shift is feeling better. I just need to tackle the white bush next to remove some of the slop. I’m on the look out for a Z4 shifter to reduce the throw a bit too. None on eBay o that keep.
Also replaced my gearbox mounts for E46 M3 ones. The old ones were pretty squidgy in comparison.

I’ve had the drivers door paint sorted too because it’d had a previous bad repair. Looks loads better.

Replaced the oil cooler gasket on the E91 ( with Genuine OEM BMW item).
Cunningly placed towel avoided the belt underneath getting covered in oil.
Old gasket not in the best of shape.
This is on my list of jobs to do next weekend, I've bought the gasket. Did you drain the coolant to do this? Or just remove the bolts and have at it?Cunningly placed towel avoided the belt underneath getting covered in oil.

Refitted the Performance spoiler on my car today. The corners were lifting and my temporary bodge failed. The spoiler didn’t take much effort to remove but getting the old tape off the spoiler was a bloody pig. It was about as much fun as being punched in the nuts.
Not surprised it started to lift; when it had been painted, whoever painted it painted a fair chunk of the bloody tape. It’s now fitted closer so looks better too.
The lemon seats have a fair bit of wear to the bolsters so I started tackling the drivers seat tonight using a kit from Colourlock. Started out looking like this...
After sanding and applying the colour it now looks like this.
Kind of wish I’d coughed up for the filler too, but it’s sodding expensive. Will apply the leather protector tomorrow night and then tackle the rest of them.

needed to free up some money so sold the F10 535 and bought an older E91 330d.
now have a list of things as long as my arm to sort on it but that's half the fun right. It was nice to be able to visit a scrapyard and buy parts again for an "older" car. not been able to do that for a while.

I’ve enjoyed mucking about with my little 130 sorting a few bits out (although my list seems to get longer and longer.... ). More fun then cleaning my ‘better’ 140i.now have a list of things as long as my arm to sort on it but that's half the fun right. Still no light so my new MAF has definitely fixed the issue!
Looking at doing a full cooling system and belt + pulley overhaul but am struggling to work out what is OEM and what is not!
I'm looking for
Radiator
Expansion tank (apparently the mayle ones are no good?)
Upper & lower radiator hoses
Water pump
Thermostat
Both belts
All of the pulleys
Would anyone be able to advise?
