Looking at doing a full cooling system and belt + pulley overhaul but am struggling to work out what is OEM and what is not!
I'm looking for

Radiator
Expansion tank (apparently the mayle ones are no good?)
Upper & lower radiator hoses
Water pump
Thermostat
Both belts
All of the pulleys

Would anyone be able to advise?
When I did the rad etc on the 330Ci...

Rad - Nissens
Expansion Tank - Meyle
Thermostat - Wahler
Hoses - Febi Bilstein

I didn't do the waterpump, pulleys or belts

I believe the best pulleys = INA
Belts - ContiTech or Gates

Agree with the above; no need to pay OEM BMW prices; Meyle water pump is more than sufficient and well made, c£25 IIRC via BMWmotormec or C3BMW. Stat; go for Walher from BMWmotormec; just find the part numbers on RealOEM and search their eBay seller listings:

Oil/Air filters and oil on the F31 330d (£114, thanks ECP)

Took the blown HK amp out of the F83 M4 to admire the water stains in it as BMW haven’t worked out how to make a convertible watertight yet mad

Read the codes due to the idle being a bit lumpy when I popped out earlier...

Cleared the code and then collected the boy from school. Read the codes again and it hadn’t come back. I can’t decide if the ideal is a bit lumpy or if it’s just me being paranoid. Will keep an eye on it and check them again in a few days.

Both of those are beautiful! I have a bit of a soft spot for the touring!

Thanks for the link it makes good reading! I think i will chance it with the Meyle ET it seems to be the most popular one online etc.
Most of it seems to be internet scaremongering I cannot see them selling parts that supposedly break after 20 miles

I bought some service bits for my car, all from BMW due to laziness:
Oil filter and microfilter
Front droplinks value line kit
Front anti roll bar bushes value line kit
2x VANOS solenoid valves
Oil cooler gasket
7 litres of Shell Helix Ultra oil (From Opie Oils)

That all came to £500. Lovely. The solenoid valves were the most expensive parts.

I recommend the BMW exp tank as they tend to last around 20 years. I don’t recommend Meyle parts as I have seen brand new Meyle “HD” parts with more play than old gen BMW parts.

I've ran Meyle parts in all my BMWs from 2011; never ever had any issues

They're well made and well priced and certainly not eBay specials, so you'll be fine smile

I added the links above for the water pump & the Walher stat FYI

Give it about a week I suspect there will be a picture of a similar Body/Wheel colour combo on a 1 Series on this thread smile

Haven't done much to mine recently in preparation for next week, but I have had a slightly concerning looking Red Letter through from BMW, inviting me to book the car in to get the blower motor replaced FOC. I know manufacturers have a duty of care and all that, but I still get mildly impressed when they decide they want to replace part of a 13 year old car with 156k on the clock.

Oh and that was the other big car news recently - it ticking over 156k. Might not sound particularly interesting, but considering it had 56k on it when I bought it, almost exactly 7 years ago, and I've never put 100k on a car before so was a big moment. I might celebrate with a Reader's Car thread, but will wait til I get it back from service next week. I'm not great at cleaning cars, so I'll get some recent pictures after the complimentary valet has been done.

I finished recolouring the rest of the seats last night. It looks loads better (lots of boring pictures on the 130 thread).

Worst of the passenger seat wear

And done

Lots of hoovering crud out too, particularly from under the rear bench. Painted the inserts to the oddment tray because they were discoloured and stained.

Need to get the car looked at because the idle remains a bit lumpy. Sometimes the revs fluctuate slightly and if you blip the throttle whilst stationary they’ll drop to 500rpm before going up and dropping back to normal. This happened a couple of times whilst driving today (eg coasting to a junction).

The error code for the valvetronic motor hasn’t come back yet though. I’m wondering if the VANOS solenoids are on the way out. It’s got a six month warranty with it, so I’ll try and use that.

needed to free up some money so sold the F10 535 and bought an older E91 330d.

now have a list of things as long as my arm to sort on it but that's half the fun right. It was nice to be able to visit a scrapyard and buy parts again for an "older" car. not been able to do that for a while.
I’ve enjoyed mucking about with my little 130 sorting a few bits out (although my list seems to get longer and longer.... hehe ). More fun then cleaning my ‘better’ 140i.

This was the result of my trip, plus a few other things that can't be seen. Managed to get it all fitted now so that's happy days. Managed to also fix the sticky handle on the passenger door.

Going to source a set of wheels next so I can referb the MV3s currently on and then the replacement set will be used for winter tyres probably.

How haven't I noticed this thread before? hehe

Not today, but seeing as though I've only just become aware of this thread...

I had the exhaust of my M2 LCI modified by ModStock (similar work to PCW) late last week. He essentially guts the back box and resonator on the standard system and welds it back from above, so it still looks completely stock.

It has essentially exaggerated all of the things I liked about the standard exhaust (over-run when letting off the throttle at high RPM's, the usual "thrum" sound at 4-4.5k RPM and pretty tame in comfort mode, no droning on the motorway most importantly).

The only real downside is the cold start is even more disgustingly loud!

Obviously I can't post a video directly, so here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0_qomHiyQk

I’m going to trust your judgment on this one! At the end of the day the car will probably rust it’s self to pieces before the parts are an issue. Before I hit buy is there anything else you guys think I will need to get this done? I’m going to put it in a garage who will fit the parts as I’m worried about bleeding it.
The Nissens radiator will come from ECP as it was cheaper than eBay!

When you get the rad; ensure it is the correct rad for your car and it IS a Nissens - double check the part numbers!

ECP have been known to cock up orders and also pop the wrong items in boxes that have been returned beforehand

That's why I never use them (too many previous cock ups I've had myself) and stick with BMWmotormec & C3BMW for parts; unless I need it ASAP and then I stick with my local motorfactors, General Traffic (they sell Moog & Febi parts etc)

Re bleeding the system; its easy; there are plenty of decent How To's on Google and Youtube etc; key is to have the front end jacked up a good few inches, so the bubbles and air rise to the highest point wink

Cleaned up and refinished the rear bumper insert. Pretty pleased with that. As usual I forgot to take any "before" photos so you'll just have to imagine greying and blotchy 21-year old originally black plastic.

In one of those "do one job, find two more" events, while crawling around behind the car I discovered that the exhaust valve seems to be stuck half open, and the towbar cover needs some touch-up paint.
