Not mine, but my dad car. M54 waterpump strikes again.
2003 E53 X5 with one owner and 264,000 miles on it. Making worrying noises and has a third for coolant. Checked, and the pump is wobbling all over the shop, as they usually do. It’s chewing up the belt, In addition to that.
The first pump went over 200,000 miles before the belt fell off while it was parked. This one maybe 40-50k. I seem to have an awful lot on at the moment, so can’t do the job. Called the father in law, and his lads will do it next week. Good timing, as they’re off on holiday then.

That's a pain, although I don't have much sympathy given that the N52/3/4 pump costs almost as much as the car and requires dismantling half the front of the car to get to, and I don't think there's an electric pump that has ever made it to 200k miles 2003 E53 X5 with one owner and 264,000 miles on it. Looks good and a lot less faff than a roof mount. Shame it's somewhat illegal without a plate/light set, which somewhat adds back the faff factor. Finished off the tank I started on the way down to Stansted on the way to another airport, this time somewhere on the M40. It took 45 litres after 328 miles, which by my rough maths is 33 to the gallon. That included some pottering about town, dispatching dawdlers on A Roads and about 10 minutes of idling at an old petrol station so it could get a wash.
Yes I know I should have switched it off, but there's lots of inching round at the place I use, and the guy washing it had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth the entire time, so any fumes were getting filtered
Now it just has to sit at an airport hotel for 2 weeks whilst we enjoy ourselves in the sun. I think it can just about manage that...

Pleased with the bike rack?
I’m thinking of getting a row bar mounted one for the 330 since it has a tow bar. Looks like a much cheaper solution that used roof bars.
Very easy to use. Can't complain for £75.I’m thinking of getting a row bar mounted one for the 330 since it has a tow bar. Looks like a much cheaper solution that used roof bars.

'Somewhat'. (But seriously I've bought a second numberplate to attach to the bike...so some vague efforts made).

Some of the Thule ones I’ve been looking at have a plate holder and lights built in. Edited by g3org3y on Tuesday 16th May 06:08

Yes, but they are £££. There's a proper lightbar/numberplate holder for this Xpress set up which I may consider as funds allow.
Ballsed if I’m paying full price; there sees, to be a decent selection of used ones on eBay for sensible money.Edited by g3org3y on Tuesday 16th May 06:08

That said there’s pros and cons for both. The fan hanging off of the pump seems to shorten their lives I’ve found.

I changed an N52 water pump that lived over 200k.Both my N52 and N54 had water pump replacements well before those mileages, although fingers crossed my current pump makes it to 200k!

The N52 one shows a shadow code before it fails though, and doesn’t throw the belt off.

It does, although you have to remember to regularly check for a code. Quite why BMW didn't see it appropriate to switch on the check engine light for a fault that will almost certainly strand the car in the near future is baffling. Arrived home to a big (expensive) box of yellow suspension bits yesterday evening to go on my F31 330d.
Will have a crack at fitting these at the weekend as my current shocks are well and truly knackered. They're B6 Damptronics, which seem to get good reviews, not too racy but a little firmer than stock, and are compatible with OEM springs too.

I think, like you, I'll be going for Bilstein shocks come early next year when my F31 is out of the extended warranty I took out on it and I look to refresh the suspension...
Thinking B6s/B8s and Eibach pro-kit springs with all new top mounts all round, may as well when it's all got to come off anyway...
2RWD thankfully; no xDrive or active damping to worry about etc
Will be intersted to hear how you get on
Took a deposit on the 125i yesterday.
It took longer to sell than I thought it would. Had the usual low ball offers, offers for swaps etc. A few chaps were supposed to see it tomorrow but one of them recognised the number plate from my thread and decided he wanted it.
I’m going to be sad to see it go.
Should be collecting the replacement tomorrow night and then I’ll get stuck into that car!

I would inspect those Bilstein dampers regularly after about 3 years. They love to corrode much quicker than you'd expect.
Any suspension upgrades i've done in the recent past i've sprayed them fully with ACF-50 anti corrosion spray and used coilover socks.https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000P1C8UO/ref...
