I think the mirror base corrosion is considered a not uncommon issue. A couple I looked at before I bought mine suffered with it.

As Court S says, defo worth giving it a go yourself. At worst, the bits go off to a bodyshop.
Yeah i got the worst of the sanding done this evening there with a B&D Mouse Sander and a Dremel with a mini sanding disk fitment. Will finish that off tomorrow evening then start building up the undercoat and gloss black.

Worst case would be i'd buy another off of ebay.

Its very odd because the passenger side one is perfect.

Ordered a CarPlay solution for my 130. It’ll make the CCC nav system much more useful and modern.

Should be here in a few days.

Also ordered some proper 3M carbon wrap because the eBay special stuff I’ve used is st and super thin and has ripped in a few places. It’s the same stuff I used in her 125i but seems way worse in quality.

Spent a bit more time staring up the exhaust, trying to free the seized butterfly valve. Definitely made progress, when I started it was about 80% closed and making an annoying whistling noise. Onto my third different rust remover/ releasant, and have escalated on the tools front to a crowbar. Still not sure if I'm moving the hinge or just bending the flap. I'm finding it hard to imagine that you should be able to move it with a finger.

Checked the tyre pressures for the first time since the wheel refurb. Both fronts sitting happily at 34 PSI, exactly where they were when the car was dropped off 10 days ago. Fairly safe to say that's been fixed.

Also booked it in at BMW to have the Heater Blower recall done. Do I assume they are going to take the dash apart from this? I ask because the 3M Pad I used to attach my BT Receiver to the trim failed, so I fixed it with Gorilla Glue, and I'd rather they didn't snap it off, considering the receiver is NLA from Sony.
What part of it is it that’s being replaced? If it’s the motor itself then I’d say it’ll be a dash out job…
If it's an E90/91 then the motor drops out with the glovebox removed.

The fan comes out from under the glove box. It’s technically easy, but a sod to get to. Take off the panel under / behind the bottom of the glove box and you can see the bottom of it.

It's an E82, so pretty much the same dashboard as far as I can tell. The recall is to "Check/Rework the Heating and AC Blower Regulator Plug Connection".

Whatever one of them is.

No idea which specific part it is though!

Wonder if it's similar to the FSU failures well known in the E39, E46 and E38 series cars?

Not sure on the exact part either but it’s not a dash out job. My other half’s 125i was only in for AB hour and a half whilst they changed the bits they needed to.

Is that the hedgehog that many have issues with on the E39/46?

My E90 went in for the same recall last week, the service chap said they were checking the loom for discolouration, if none they will just replace the short loom but if there is discolouration they will replace the whole lot.

I have no idea what any of that means really but hopefully it makes sense to someone! On mine it was the former of the two and it was about an hour and a half, looks like they had some of the dash out though.

The X5 is back. New waterpump etc now installed.

Absolutely filthy, may wash it over the weekend. [short arse]I might need a step to get to the roof. laugh[/short arse]

Took advantage of the 15% eBay code last week so ordered coils to replace the whole lot on the 630i. Also ordered the gearbox mounts for the E91. Annoyingly, they've only sent one (ordered two obvs!) irked

Which one did you go for? I've had this on the list for my E91 for some time, been following a very helpful thread on the bmw5.co.uk forum where a number of people have installed the Andream CarPlay unit and been pleased with it.

Did you also go for the reversing camera option?

Yup; Final Stage Resistor for the heating, AKA 'Hedgehog'

The exhaust flap on my E46 330Ci was seized solid in the open position and I could never get it to move despite plenty of soaking in various penetrating oils and plenty of hard thumps with a hammer and chisel. I gave up when the flap started to bend and decided just to live with it permanently open. That said, the previous owner had disconnected and plugged the vacuum hose to the valve, so it probably hadn't moved in several years before I tried to free it off.

When it's working properly you can move it quite easily by hand. Good luck with yours.

I went with a kit from Bavarian Automotive. Not cheap but keeps the car looking OE and retains the use of the original CCC should you so want it. I couldn’t help thinking that the 10 inch screen options for the 1 series would be too big.

I fitted one in my F10. I made it a little more complicated for my self as i fitted it under the glovebox as opposed to hidden behind the dash, but even then it wasnt especially difficult. Cant imagine the E91 being any more troublesome. Well worth it.

Thanks. It's definitely occurred to me that it might easily be 15 years since it last moved. Will keep trying, have bought an extra long 17mm wrench to get some leverage on the hinge so will see how that goes. I guess the worst case is taking the bumper off to be able to get some proper access, not sure I'm that keen...

Fitted ATE Ceramic pads to the Z4 Coupe. Its running drilled discs so every run in it requires the alloys to be washed. Will know in a day or two if its been worth it.
