I know but couldn’t resist it. Thought you’d all say that’s Audi drivers!

Put my retained number plate on the 340i - done all the admin myself online yet still had to pay an admin fee rolleyes

Next up might be MPPSK retrofit if I can justify it to myself.

Exactly the same gear knob in my touring!

Where did you source yours from (sorry if this has already been asked)?
Ebay - but likely paid over the odds.

Its discussed on page 32 from about 1/4 the way down. Mr Tidy has some pointers RE: getting one cheaper near the bottom of that page.

Do note however, there is two lengths for the shaft. Ones about an inch longer than the other so pull yours out and have a good check and comparison. I ordered the wrong one initially and had to send it back.

I think its as simple as the shaft colour (studying mine here as we speak). Black is the shorter shaft, grey is the longer one. Theres about an inch difference.

Theres links to both (and part numbers in the links) about 1/4 way down page 32.
Cheers for that

I'll see what BMW Cotswolds quote first and go from there smile

Changed the valvetronic motor gasket. Piece of cake to do. The old one didn’t look too clever

New one in and the motor all cleaned up.

I really hope that it sorts the issue out for you Sam. thumbup

I'm not sure that it would be a piece of cake if I tried to do it(read terrible spannering skills on my part)! hehe

Thanks Lee, so do I. It started first time after and didn’t sound like it was going to blow up and kill me! hehe

It’s genuinely Ok to do courtesy of YouTube videos.

Good luck with the Valvetronic gasket, Sam. Hopefully it sorts the idle woes you have.

E36 has been booked in at the trimmers for a headlining replacement. After 28 years, the headliner has cried enough and is looking in a sorry state. I would try the job myself, but having looked it up I do not want to have to drop the headliner twice, and I'll definitely make a mess of the board it lives on. The lack of A/C really does make me wonder how I ever managed before. I used it for less than an hour today, but 31 degrees makes itself known. 330i is being used for a trip I have to make later. hehe

The sad looking headlining...

Once that is done all of the jobs I wanted to do on it are done. On the 31st of July I'll be off to the Festival of the Unexceptional in it.

Driven the car today albeit briefly and it’s still working which is good! The revs at idle do seem a bit smoother and no error codes so far.

I might whip the engine cover off Wednesday to check for any signs of leaking before we disappear to Devon for a week on Friday.

630i passed the MOT.

- underbody shields fitted
- Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
- Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
- Nearside Track rod end ball joint has slight play (2.1.3 (b) (i))

Need to really get that right rear alloy checked to see if the slow puncture is actually an issue with the wheel itself.

Used the E34 to go on a 400 mile round trip to collect my E26 rims from being tided up (not a full refurb as the front face was in good condition, just the rear and bead needed attention). Then took the wheels and a set of original tread pattern Pirelli P6 Cinturato tyres to my regular tyre shop to have them fitted.

Hit a milestone last night:

Everything still works, and with the work I've done to it over the past 2 years, feels better than ever. Just need to have a spot of tidying up done for the paintwork and we'll keep on track to the big 200. smile

630i serviced yesterday - oil, oil filter, plugs, etc.
New rocker cover gasket, new oil filter housing gasket.
Suspension adjusted at rear, now sitting level. woohoo

Door mirror arrived from Lithuania (bought from ebay). Turns out they sent me one off an E61 not an E63, so is going back. irked

ANOTHER one ordered. rolleyes

Your manky mirror really doesn’t want to be replaced does it? hehe

Not a bad motor to use for work like that wink

On the plus side, i've one sourced that might be here in a day or two, rather than waiting 3 weeks for another one to not come from Lithuania.

My E82 125i has just ticked over 157k and is pretty much the same - feels better than when I bought it on 56k. I've run an E36, E46 and now the E82 to these sorts of mileages, and the little 1 Series is proving to handle it the best of the lot.

Dropped off the X5 for MOT. Fingers crossed.

EDIT:

And it's a pass:

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
- underbody shields fitted
- Offside mirror deteriorated
- Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
- Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
- Nearside Rear Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))
- Offside Rear Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))

The mirror is auto-dim where the glass now has that yellow tinge. Best suppliers for a replacement? I suspect BMW OE would be £££.

It's on the 20 inch Star Marked Dunlop Sport Maxx RFTs. Looking to put it back on the 18s and maybe put all seasons (ideally non RFT).
