The A/C was a massive improvement after a regas…just hoping it stays that way!

The interior was tackled yesterday…it was fking disgusting once the seats were out.

And after some hard work

The boot was very dusty which probably didn’t help with the smell inside!

Looks better now though

Did a bit of coding too so it now has the digital speedo, comfort key eject, headlight washers turned off and auto lock at 8mph.

I’m tackling the paint today.
Good work, love how the first job after getting the car home is to strip the interior to give it a proper clean!

It could be worse, my E91 330i was used for carrying the previous owner's dog in the boot. Despite vigorous attempts to get rid of all the dog hair embedded into the carpeted trim around the boot I was still finding dog hairs in it when I sold it several years later. Thankfully it didn't still smell of dog by then however.

Thanks. This was definitely the worst of our recent cars to clean. I thought the 116 that here mum and dad never cleaned was bad, but this was nasty. I guess that’s the joys of buying an estate; they’re used for lugging stuff around including kids.

I did have a wobble at one point and wondered what I’d done.

Very true! I remember finding various sweet wrappers and unopened sweets under the rear seat bench on my 330i, to add to the dog hair in the boot. Thankfully no half eaten sweets hurl

I finished getting stuck into the 330i yesterday. It’s better but needs further work.

I need to have a crack at the paint again with a heavy cutting compound to get it much better. After some wax it looks ok (better not on the sun and from a few feet away).

The 125i was collected too, I was sad to see it go to be fair.

Today, I decided to get to know the 330i better by taking it to Holyhead for work; 350 miles covered without hiccup at an average of 30.7mpg.

Just getting the A/C regassed. Really hoping it works and I get away with just having that done. eek
Fingers crossed it's a simple fix.

I remember when we bought ours, the A/C wasn't especially cold. Regas sorted it for 48hrs. Turned out there was an A/C pipe leak round the back somewhere that cost a decent amount to fix. Wife was particularly annoyed at the time as she was 7 months pregnant and it was an especially hot summer. Once it was sorted, she was delighted and spent her lunch breaks just driving around to keep cool (as her office otherwise was a sauna despite 3x fans pointed at her).
And it looks like it’s got a leak in the A/C system. It’s gone from being icy cold to spitting out warm air since Monday Morning. Balls.

A local A/C specialist is coming to have a look at next weekend. They’re unfortunately really busy since it’s warmed up a tad.

That's frustrating. Hopefully easy to diagnose where it's leaking from and not too much ££ to sort.

Gave the old girl a proper clean and restored all the exterior plastic and rubber. Cleans up pretty good for 18 years old.

E39 bonnet cables replacement.

I can honestly say I would not wish this job on my worst enemies, including those select few who through their own despicable achievements have made it onto my ‘wouldn’t piss on them if they were burning’ list.

A st of job where everything that could go wrong did go wrong (or just break).

Vaguely looking for a facelift E39 6cyl sport.

Prices seem to have exploded. My dad paid less for his than 90% of the examples up for sale now, 17 years ago.

530i Sport, facelift. M Parallels. Black with champagne leather. DSP. The newer steering wheel. Now that’s my dream spec.

It’s a bit annoying but hey ho.

Looking at the A/C diagram their appear to be three hoses all of which are probably very expensive and the rearmost one is probably a st to get to and will most likely be the culprit.

A leaking condenser is probably the best outcome since it’s at the front of the engine. I swapped the AUC send from my 335i into it as a Hail Mary, but it made no difference. The diagnosis is £35 and done on my drive. If it’s a broken compressor I might just pop in a good used one from Quarry to keep costs sensible.

I ticked off a few other jobs yesterday; assigned her private plate and had new Asymmetric 6’s fitted on the rear. I also discovered that despite what eBay sellers say, the E91 boot handle is different to the rest of the range and there are no used ones having checked the part numbers. New ones look obnoxiously expensive and it might be cheaper to buy a whole boot floor used.

The very same tyres I’m about to fit on my E91 once I’m back from France - rave reviews, as I’m sure you already know! And sounds like they last a good while, certainly more than the competition.

Fwiw - I’m on Potenza Sports at the moment, front and rear. Great tyres in both dry and wet but they wear super fast: rears are down to 1mm above the legal limit after 15k miles (60% motorway cruising, 30% moderately spirited on A-roads or French equivalent, 10% spirited).

That’s good to know re the Potenza Sports because they’re an option that I was considering for the 335i because they seem to be on offer more than other options. I’ll avoid them an go with the Sport Contact 7’s. I wanted to put Good Years on my 335i to match the fronts but there are limited 19/30 options.

Washed the 330i this morning to remove the dust, bird poo and dead bugs and got sidetracked….

Fitting the LCI headlights which I think look much better.

All I need to do now is code the DRL function so the angel eyes are in all of the time.

Two new rear tyres on my Alpina supplied and fitted by https://www.dtmtyres.co.uk/ who deserve a mention. £300 each, but they've lasted 31,000 miles so I'll take that. Either that or I really should try harder...

Front discs and pads on the Z4. After a total and utter fail at the first attempt a couple of weeks ago it all came apart like it was fresh out of the factory. Maybe the plus gas just needed 3 weeks to work. Anyway, rears tomorrow.

Refreshed the steering wheel trim to get rid of the peeling soft touch. Acetone did half the job of lifting it off but quickly dried into a very tough layer so had to resort to much sanding through the grades. Quite a few thin coats of primer and satin black paint was doing the job nicely until I got too over confident and over sprayed a blob. It's not in the eye line too much and I didn't fancy starting again so will just mark it up as a lesson learnt...!

Whilst I was in there I rewired the paddles to a more traditional pull/pull formation rather than the awkward (IMO) push/pull. Bit fiddly with fat fingers but no rocket science required.

Does anyone know where the E92 boot gutters empty to? I regularly clear mine of tree droppings but wonder where the bits end up that squeeze behind the boot seal that's attached to the tail lights. I tried to remove the tail lights but didn't have a socket that would fit over the bolt thread. Obvs want to avoid any clogged gutters over time so curious to know the architecture.

cool

E53 still such a good looking design. So understated compared to the kind of stuff BMW is churning out these days.
