All,

I recently purchased a 94 M3. I was getting it chipped yesterday and the chipping chap thought it was a GT for 3 reasons:

1. Anthrite (sp?) grey and black leather seats which only came on the GT
2. It has the 52mm GT throttle body as opposed to the 48mm standard M3 one
3. It has the GT Computer/ECU

I pointed out that it has the normal boot spolier and not the twin level GT one (as per Evo mag's M3 project car). He said he believed this twin level spoiler was only an option and not standard.

I have rung BMW and they cant tell from their records.

Any advice would be appreaciated.

Cheers,
Brendon

If it's looks like this it's a GT....

www.bcw3design.com/m3/m3_gt.htm

....They are all that colour and spec
If it's any different you may just have a few mods fitted by a previous owner.

As far as I know they were all Brit racing Green and were limited to 50 UK cars. They had aircon, green leather seats, mildly tuned engines etc. They also had a faster steering rack as we found out last week whilst comparing 2 E36 racers at Silverstone. Any one know if the gearbox and diff ratios were altered?

BMW made a second limited series GT without engine mods later on and they were all red and may have been EVO engined (not sure)

I am most definitely going to stop my medication. I spoke to Jethro B last week at Donington where he was trialing the car, and, do you know, I can not for the life of me remember what colour it was!!! It is a GT, and they were all BRG (which is quite dark) for sure, but I think you could be right and the EVO car is black.

Another Lager please miss.

Ok, as the owner of an M3 GT of 2 weeks, there were a number of changes to the standard M3, some listed below should be able to confirm whether its a genuine GT or has had some GT parts added.

The E36 M3 GT is a limited-edition version of the Euro-market 3.0-liter M3 coupe developed to homologate the larger, adjustable front and rear spoilers for competition use. A total of 356 were built (306 with left-hand drive and 50 with right-hand drive) from May, 1995 to August, 1995 with the following special equipment:

-A retuned version of the S50 B30 powerplant with 264-degree cams, a BMW Motorsport dual-pickup oil pan, duocentric oil pumps and upgraded VANOS software producing 295 hp at 7,000 rpm and 238 lb/ft of torque at 3,900 rpm
-Shorter 3.23:1 final drive
-Stiffer springs and shocks
-M strut tower brace
-British Racing Green (312) paintwork
-Adjustable front and rear spoilers
-Clear front turn signal lenses
-Aluminum doors
-"BMW Motorsport International" emblems on exterior door mouldings and interior sill plates
-Forged M Double Spoke wheels (7.5x17-in. front, 8.5x17-in. rear)
-Mexico Green Nappa leather upholstery with Anthracite Amaretta bolsters
-Three-spoke steering wheel with airbag
-Carbon fiber dashboard and center console trim (on the UK RHD cars this was substituted for bits of bark!)

As mine is a Italian Specced LHD car, it has all of the above but apparently some of the UK cars dont have aluminium doors.

Here is a piccy of the interior to see if matches yours. www.smartgroups.com/picvault/31882394.JPG/DSC02264.JPG

Can't BMW give you any info with your chassis number?

Brendon,

The evo car is black IIRC. I also thought that the GT came in Imola red. There is a local one to me in Imola.

They usually have matching leather on the centre of the seats and Alcantara bolsters. Not sure about any of the other more mechanical aspects, but you may find that yours have been added subsequently.

Hell, who cares. You've got a great car whichever way you look at it.

Mattoz,

Evo's car is definately green! The red cars you mentioned were a limited edition run of 50 RHD Uk Imola Red cars which were nicknames GT2's but had the same mechanical bits as the standard 3.2 Evo M3. They had GT corner splitters and part imola red interior + the GT rear spoiler.

I think these were right at the end of M3 Evo production.

Right just had a close look at my recent Evo mags. Their track car looks black but from 1 picture when its on the hoist it appears its dark green. There is also an interior shot and the leather is green as per the GT spec.

Anyway I am very happy with my baby, was at Bedford yesterday and having it chipped and air filter added this week resulted in a big smile on my face the whole day.

Many thanks for all your help guys.

Cheers,
Brendon

Thats the 3.2 EVO GT.. which was just a bit of window dressing to make it a special edition. The 3.0 GT was only available in green.
