I've got a few minor scratches on a Dec '01 Metallic Black X5. Does anyone know how I would go about confirming the exact colour of paint I need to buy? I've checked the owners' manual but no luck...

Cheers, CG

Paint Code label, normally found on near side of engine bay, by shock absorber mount

You didn't need to tell us it was black - I don't think they come in any other colour

If they're scratches rather than tiny chips it might be better to try one of the chipsaway type places to make the repair invisible. Usually charge around £75 per panel for dings and paint touching up and the result is often invisible.

Hmmm, should it look anything like this:-

WBAFB32***LN84***

? It was the only number I could see under my meagre torchlight.

thats your chassis number, it'll be a 3 digit code.

if its black sapphire your code is 475.
