Good post!

I'm upset to hear this!...I've been wracking my brains over recent weeks as to what I might get if I were to 'rationalise and consolidate' my BMW collection...six BMWs is too many to maintain!

Having just agreed the sale of my 840Ci Sport (see PH ad) I'm in the process of getting my Alpina B3 Coupe ready for sale. Last on the list to sell would be my E30 M3. This would be a painful loss and I therefore resolved that it would have to be replaced by something 'special'.

E39 M5s and E46 M3s?...good cars but victims of their own success and hence too many around for my purposes (no offence meant)...so front runner has been an E46 CSL for a while. That is, until I read the recent threads on M-car warranties etc and the various implications thereof!

God! I even enquired about the E9 CSL Batmobile for sale in Tenerife...having owned a 3.0CS for 13 years they still hold a place in my heart. But 50,000 Euros for what amounts to a restoration case still located in the Canaries?!?...Hmmm, maybe not!

Whilst I've never been a two-seater sports car type of person I did suddenly think: "What about a Z8?...That would make a good 'Garage Queen'?"

But now having read your post?!...What a disaster!...Back to the drawing-board for me I think?

The only thing I'd disagree with in your post is the term 'under-valued'. Doing an Autotrader search all available 7 cars range from circa £50K for a 2000 car to circa £70K for a 2003 car...I'd say compared with other 'expensive' BMWs they've been 'over-valued' for too long! Let's see what happens now!

Meantime...I'm out of ideas...looks like I'll be keeping the E30 M3 even longer! can't really contemplate a change of Marque after over 25 years of BMW...can I?

Hi L.A

I'm anxious to see how this pans out! As you say, I'm sure it will be the U.S owners who will lead the class action. Whenever there's a fundamental problem they always do best in taking BMW to task over it...and winning!

When one looks back along the post-war lineage there are a few BMWs which have emerged as 'iconic' for varying reasons eg. motorsport success,innovation,style... One thinks of 503, 507, 2002 Turbo, E9 CSL, M1, E30 M3...others I can't think of at the moment maybe? Like'em or not the Z8 will (or maybe now "was"!) probably be due to fall into that category in time. That was my thinking anyway.

Now?...who knows what will happen in the light of the news you've given us!?

Keep us posted!
