I have a 3.0 diesel X5 on order which should come through in August 2003. I remember reading an article somewhere saying that the X5 was going to get a facelift in 2003 and that the diesel version would get the engine from the new 7 series diesel with 218 bhp. The dealer as usual claims ignorance and I can't find where i read it - does anyone have any information?

Not sure about the engine, but the facelift is pretty minor and you'd have to really look hard and know your stuff to notice the changes. At least that was the case when I saw the last pics of it in Autocar.

Yes, The X5 will be updated from June 2003 I believe and fitted with updated engines, a valvetronic version of the 3.0i petrol, engines from the 7 series (3.0 diesel (218hp) and 4.4 petrol (329hp)) and a new 4.8i to replace the 4.6i by the end of the year.

I also have ordered 3.0 diesel for this year - dealer assures me upgraded model (facelift and 3.2 diesel engine) not going to be available until Sept 2004 at earliest - have you had any further news?

Saw your post yesterday jonmc and called the dealer again this morning. Still no info but he keeps telling me that the new diesel engine will be in the car by August delivery date i've had scheduled.

I have now confirmed that if its not an upgraded model I will not be bound to take delivery although I may just take it and turn it - there seems to be a healthy premium on them at the moment. But no doubt by then the world will have gone into terminal decline and I will lose a fortune.
