What does your rechargeable torch look like? Is it black or white? Is the back of it i.e. where it slots into the car, male or female? What does it look like? Can you see two male pins?

Background:

I want to use a BMW adaptor to convert the torch socket into a auxillary power source. See:

http://us.st11.yimg.com/store1.yimg.c

Trouble is they make these for two flashlight types, white and black, also if I look at the socket in my car it looks like a the flashlight (torch) probably has a shroud around two male pins, it almost seems like a male. Does that make sense?
BMW don't sell these in the UK so I'll have to have it sent over from the states.

Many thanks in advance.

Out of my M3 (04 build) it's a black torch, male pins, keyed socket with the pins offset toward the top of the socket

All newer BMW's have black torches, the E36 had white but the E46 certainly is black.

I always thought it was an optional extra. Certainly in the E36. My 325 had one but I'm not so sure about my E46. I just can't remember!

You don't get them anymore........

You don't get the crome tailpipe finishers either on 6cyl E46 anymore either, they have to be ordered and paid for via parts, don't know why

the crome tail pipes were never fitted on the production line in Munich, they were upto about a year ago - fitted at Thorne - now they are fitted at the dealer. its partly to do with parts targets, partly to do with the recharge costs to sales from Thorne for supplying and fitting the extensions, as the cost comes out of the sale of the car, which created internal invoicing issues.

Zod is right, it is rubbish, I bought one on ebay for a couple of quid as the dealer wanted a silly amount of cash for it.

I'll list it as an extra when I sell the car

My '94 E36 torch was used for the first time on 21/12 last year
I know the date 'cause we went to an 'equinox' drinks party.
We had to park in a field, and I was:
a) surprised that I remembered the torch,;
b) surprised that it was still there;
c)Gobsmacked by the fact that it worked!

Those torches go for a fortune on Ebay!

Its a 2ft heavy Maglite in my car. Doesn't fit in the glovebox at all.

Strange really - I've only just realised that it wasn't the equinox was it? We must be nearing the spring equinox now.

Still you're the man who'd know!

I beg to differ Zod. I actually found the intended use for mine today...........Being able to see the wires under the seat after adjusting the seat angle when re fitting (CSL).The wife likes it now she can see over the steering wheel.......bu66er!
