sorry i'm sure it's been covered before. i'm debating wether to fit a digital tuning box or have a remap on my 330d(204). i know the box is a basic device and can cause a smoky exhaust but i have warranty and don't want to have a problem with the dealer. i realise there diagnostics can't read the remap but i know a mechanic could feel it with a quick blast down the road. what to do?

Are you sure they cant? Porsche ECU's and many others have a flash counter which counts the number of times the chips been flashed/reflashed to put a map on. I'd investigate further.

I'm curious on this too. My old man fancies a bit more poke out his 530d.

I superchipped my 320d some time ago and it played up a couple of months ago, so new injectors and then a DDE (ECU) were fitted under warranty.

No comments at all from the dealer.

Got it re-chipped asap though. Couldn't believe how slow it felt with a new DDE.

Got my E60 530d chipped too, good value mod as far as I'm concerned.

I used a Tunit box on my X5 really pleased with the results, lots more torque and improved acceleration - definatly worth while looking at!

i think a digital box may be the (smoky) way for me, i have lots of trouble with a merc diesel currently, i'm seeing how big bills (try 3k+) can get on these vehicles with no warranty and lots of trouble, at least the box comes off in 5 mins and theres no argument with stealer man.

talking diablo, a friend worked at reading when porsche hq were importing them, he saw a 530 sv (98/99 model) get near 500 at the wheels on the dyno there. sounds a bit much but that's the vtech type cam model so could be accurate? dump the cats and i'm sure it would be there.

Unlikely, unless its an american dyno (they read much higher, and get more innacurate as the car gets more powerfull)

I would expect it to do around 430-450 at the wheels, if its 530 at the crank.

the few i have driven don't feel anything like the claims. strange, the mags get good times out of them. from your earlier post you recommend tuning boxes generally? getting back to topic, i'm told a digital type box is as good as they get?

Well, interestingly, been doing some testing with 330D's. The tuneit boxes see gains of about 18hp and 50 to 60ftlbs of torque. However, a remap done by chipsuk saw a smaller increase in torque but a much bigger increase up the top end.

The remap i would recommend most however is done by AMD in Bicester.

interesting stuff, the amd kit looks good but at a price, when so many tuners offer packages for much less it's a tough decision. thanks for your advice.

Anyone have any experience with DMS? They have articles in Autocar and do most diesels.
