Is there a convertible version???????????????????The vehicle mentioned by X5ER is indeed the car formerly known as 'Kylie'on this very forum.I bought it last year from an advert on PH and imediatly put a set of 8"&9"X18 with Yokohama A048's on her and did a track day at Goodwood(my local track).Very impressed.I was at Goodwood only three weeks previously at the Festival of Speed and Jackie Stewart was lapping at 1.37 in a 60's open wheel B.R.M..A very naughty onlooker,although forbiden by the organizers,timed me at 1.38.5.Given that the time was not measured by Tag Heuer and I am no M.Schumaker,I was well chuffed with my achievment.The car drove really well and the potential,not to mention the grin factor,is mind bogling.So,fingures crossed,it's out with the 4 and in with the 4.4 motor but grief is on the horison with regards to the mapping of the ECU(probably going to use Emerald)mainly due to VANOS and 8 x coils.
If by WRC brakes you mean the ones that closely resemble standard BMW 325i brakes,then I would have to say Shite!They melted(both pads and discs)after only five laps of the Wood.Luckily they where the last five laps of the day and the only reason they lasted that long was because I wasn't using them properly(acording to the pro driver that I gave £20.00 to for some tuition)On the Lavant Straight the speedo was reading 140+mph(although I am not totally convinced of its validity)and as I went past the start/finish line,onlookers where rushing over to see what could be making such a gloriuos noise.The Milltek stainless exhaust is truly a divine piece of kit if not only for the sound it makes.The car now has EBC M3 Evo discs and yellow stuff pads with M3 Evo callipers.I plan to upgrade to AP 6 pot magnesium callipers all round with 378mm discs front and 325mm rear over the winter but I am being a little distracted at the moment as I am awaiting the completion of my 5 year long 650bhp Ultima project to come to a head and funds will only stretch so far.Hopefully I will be attending the Wood on the 3rd and the 28th of July so listen out for that glorious noise.
Can't see the point in slotting in a 4.4, the 4.0 is mapped to the hilt (some South Africa v8 turing car derived maps) already, & was (dunno if still) running decats, hence just bung a 4.4 in there & it will have less grunt & even mapped in the same way I don't see it having much- if anymore, than the 320bhp/330lb/ft 4.0 already pumped out on the AmD rollers.
However the 4.4 is a stronger engine but only worth plonking in if the 4 goes pop, or if you want to supercharge it, as im told the 4.0 wouldnt like the strain.
An e39 M5 lump would be the puppy to slot in really, & then with the option of S/C it later! = proper beast.

Thanks for the sugestions,but your reasoning is fundamentaly flawed(if only because all the facts have not been made available).A./I already have a low milage 4.4 motor that I would like to use.B/I intend to run an after market ECU and throtle bodies and junk the airflow meter,thus freeing up air flow and creating a platform to buildA more power.C/I will be building a high reving narrow power band motor over the winter,concentrating on flowed and ported heads with titanium valves and some trick cams(any sugestions where I may source such items?)with a blueprinted bottom end with uprated con rod bolts.The torque figures are potentialy greater for this motor than the 4.0ltr and if the rev limit can be stretched a little then I feel any shortfall in bhp will be catered for.Also,I don't know where you heard the facts about the 4.0ltr not being strong enough to deal with being supercharged but without wishing to boast,I have a 540 that has a Vortech supercharger fitted by West Tuning and Ray West himself said that he felt the 4.0ltr motor performed better and stronger than the E39 supercharged 4.4ltr that his firm had previously built.Looking at the cars side by side,I don't think there is enough room in the E36 engine bay for a V8 AND a supercharger(drat!) Whilst still on the subject,if not already convinced, of 'why'?,because I wan't to.

From the horses mouth so to speak- Ray, when he checked the car over & he & I were discussing what I could do to kylie in the future if I kept her, he thought 4.4 was a stronger base if I did want to SC.

I did speak with Ray after buying the E36 not knowing that he had actualy had it in his workshop.He did not have many good things to say about the car but the last time he saw it was some time ago,I think alot has been done to it since.Until Ray supercharged myE34,indeed,he did before hand think that the E39 derivative would out perform it but once completed,was proved wrong(by his own admission)I don't now how he ever thought you might get a supercharger in that engine bay,there is little room for dust!

Yes I can confirm that is the case......
But why He would want such a small engined large heavy car, as a track day tool I'll never know..... Getting more horse power in a car less than half the wieght, now thats Fun...
