I have to admit I have been mincing about a lot, but 10k is a lot of money and I am only wanting to buy it because I believe it to be a good deal. He has put it in autotrader for 11750 and if it doesnt go by the weekend its mine (or porsches if I dont take it).

I just read the post about the guy who was having trouble selling his wifes 330Ci. A lot of the posts were saying that the 330Ci prices were dropping like stones.
I am in a dilemma now. The car I previously mentioned in this thread has now been offered to me for 10k. I want to buy it, but I dont want to lose much (if any) money on it.
Just to recap - its a 330Ci Sport, 73k, Imola Red, Black leather electric memory seats, Harmon Kardon, parking sensors, climate, etc. Advice would really be appreciated. Thanks.

At the end of the day, all cars lose money - fact of life (Unless of course you have something extremely rare!) All you have to satisfy yourself with, is that you are paying fair money for the car. £10k for a 330ci is getting you a lot of car for the money and if you've not owned a Beemer before the step up from a Renault 172 will be appreciable. If the car has been owned and cared for by your friend's dad, there is no reason that it shouldn't give years of trouble-free service. As for the warranty situation, this car probably doesn't have any, and in any case I think 60k miles is the limit of the BMW warranty. Don't bother with aftermarket warranties - they are not worth the paper they are printed on. Get the car regularly serviced and if you can, do an oil change between services and provided the car wasn't a lemon before you got it, it should give you a good ownership experience.

In short, keep a cool head, make an objective judgement (or get someone qualified to do it) on the condition of the car and then decide what is a fair price. If as you state, the car is immaculate and shows careful previous ownership it's probably worth £10k and you should go for it! Would also be worth calling a dealership and asking them for book value on this car as it may be worth verifying the trade-in value suggested by your friend's dad.

Thanks m3desmo, sound advice. I am getting the car checked by a friend of a friend who is a BMW mechanic at a main garage in bracknell. Apparently they do something like a 125 point check, but he said he will do his best as we dont have access to a ramp (not allowed to take the car to where he works). Providing he gives it the thumbs up then I will take it.

No probs. Good luck with the inspection. If all checks out ok, I think you will get yourself a car that you will enjoy and give you good service.

As an aside, also ask to see the invoices from previous services, as these will show all previous work done to the car, including warranty repairs etc. If the car has a list of works as long as your arm, this could indicate a 'lemon' and you should steer clear. Otherwise enjoy the ownership experience and that silky purr from one of the best inline six engines ever made.
