As the write in the article: "The rear end is currently looking a little too close to the Hyundai Sonata's for comfort, however." Can't argue with that one. The current 5 series just about manages to look interesting in the right colours. However, beyond the Z4 coupe, the current BMW line up is down to acquired taste...hurl

Good point the entire range might have been styled by Hyundai. The graceful elegant lines of 5 years or more ago are now just a distant memory.

It looks old before its new. I wouldn't want it on my drive.

Is there a PHer out there who would buy one?

I can't see much difference personally. What is 'flame surfacing' anyhow?

It's where they set fire to it to make it melt into a slightly different shape to the old one.........

Slighty better then the current one, but that wasn't too hard a challenge anyway

Is it just me?..I'm really struggling to see the difference between now and this supposed 2010 new model? One could quite easily convince me that this represents no more than a sneak preview of the mid-life facelift that BMW always seems to employ before actually bringing out a whole new generation.

Whilst we have to accept that with the bread-winner ranges for BMW (i.e 3 and 5-Series) 'Evolution' rather than 'Revolution' has been and (understandably) is the way of the past this looks more like 'Stagnation'?!

It seems very early for us to be in anyway privy to such a completed looking project too? Model ranges generally tend to last around 8 years for BMW? 2010 sounds too early and 2006 seems too early for us to be seeing anything like definitive plans?

Put quite simply: "I don't believe it!"....Or more forcefully: "I simply don't believe it!"

IT is surely just a mid life face lift, as the general shape of the body shell is the the same as the existing model, just a modification to the bonnet / front wings / bootlid (easy parts to re-manufacturer in new style). Hated the E60 when it came out, still do with those bloody awful sofa casters for wheels, but i must admit with a proper size wheel on it, i prefer it to the E39. This 7 series type facelift is quite nice.

I uphold this whole report is BS, just like the old E92 M3 shots.

The pics are just 'shopped M5 pics from 2003!!

I think this will damage BMW even more, people are used to Bangle design, and sales of the e60 show this. No need to tone it down.

Shades of the E39 rear there. And that's no bad thing.

I personally (in my completely unbiased view, not just because I've got an E39, oh no) think that the E39 was the last genuinely attractive 5 series.

You do realise that photo is the current M5?

This is a non-story, chaps. These are just rubbishy photoshop jobs of E90 3 Series lights and other bits onto the current M5. See below:

(as spotted by darren at bm3w)

This isn't journalism. It's just bollox.

I'd rather hoped it was the new one.

Oh well.

See, I love the current 5-series ni sport guise. I think its a great looking car.

The new 3-series and 3-series coupe on the other hand....VOMTASTIC!

BMW are just getting it all kinds of wrong lately. This new 5-series is nowhere enar as nice as the current one. The X5 is uglier in it's up-coming facelift, too.

They need some lessons from Alfa, Jaguar, Aston...hell, even Ford and Mazda!

Edited by PhantomPH on Wednesday 20th September 12:18

Agree with that. Does this mean the "old" 5 series will be a bargain buy when the new one arrives?

no matter how better a bmw 5 series is than the rest in the exec class..i think its soo ugly i would never buy one. plus that I drive is infuriating. i drove a 535d and was amazed by the materials inside, the drive..the quality..but when i parked it..turned my head and saw it ..i thought..nooooo..hopefully bmw will change my mind in 2009
