The 635CSi is visually perfect as it comes from the factory - with the possible exception of the 507, BMW have never made a better-looking car.

Anything you do to it will have a negative impact.

There's a (matt) black one with some stupid wide-boy bodykit in my street -ruined it IMO. Totally chavtastic.

Have a look at mine on profile, full mtech kit and is perfect!! As for performance hikes i would guess a turbo would be the way to go, or stick a 745 engine in it, comes with turbo already idea

Performance wise probably the easiest and most importantly, least invasive and completely reversible way is to 'chip' or remap the ECU. The M30 big-six loves this. Significant (though maybe not huge) gains can be achieved by this at relatively modest cost.

Additionally, subtle suspension improvements can be made. I have a friend who knows these cars inside out and who has a particular set-up/package which he has used in the past himself and which he has sold to several E24 owners. I can't remember the details of the package but if you want please e-mail me and I'll send you his contact e-mail for you to discuss it with him directly.

I emphasise SUBTLE as I think it important, as others have said, that you don't start making the car look "mucked about with". I think this is really important on these cars.

'Back-in-the-day' I really wanted one of these cars. Of course, the very first of these cars arriving when I was about 13 years old (1976) meant that I couldn't afford one as a child or a young man. By the time I could possibly have afford one so much of the magic had been by then lost by people (who probably equally couldn't really afford to maintain them) had abused or 'modified' such that I no longer wanted one! It's only very recently that I would now again consider a really good, standard, unabused example.

I guess what I and others are saying is (in today's parlance): "Don't Bling or Chav it up"?

Good luck with the car.

yes I honestly think that the Highline kit is simply superb and anything else to try and `improve` would be a step in the wrong direction.
Ok i'm a little biased (check my profile) but keep it looking fairly standard with a nice set of period Alpina wheels.
Engine wise, i would have it breathed on slightly. Turbo/Supercharger well that my take things a little too far, remember these were Luxury cars back in the day. May be an ECU re-map and a differant cam will do the trick just nicely and not break the bank too much as opposed to £x,xxx on forced induction.

Finally congratulations on a nice machine, the e24 is timeless !

Even the racing version used the standard bodykit. If you really want something eye catching you could try getting the same graphics package as the race cars, that will stand out more than any bodykit could ever hope.

Plenty of turbo kits around for the M30 engine, Alpina even did one straight from the factory. The motor is relatively unstressed as standard so it usually responds well to power ups, whether NA or forced induction. Your choice of upgrade would depend largely on your budget, goals and preferences.
