Hey guys,

After trying to get in a decent trade in value for my M3 from the dealer I think I've got a pretty poor price, especially given the book value someone was kind enough to give me on here a few months ago.

M3 convertible with SMG
30k miles
Carbon Black / Imola Red Leather
Registered May 03 (2003 03)
19" Alloys (all 4 are scuffed a little)
Bluetooth
Wind deflector
Tax until 04/07 and MOT until August 07
I'm the 2nd owner
Full service history from BMW inc 1200 mile service
A small scratch on the driver side door; laquer is peeling also - ChipsAway quoted £150 to fix this
Tyres - approaching legal limit; I appreciate the dealer will have to replace these before being able to sell the car on.

However, £18500 seems INCREDIBLY low?? I was thinking £21-22k would be a realistic trade in price given they'll try to sell it for £25k?

Edit to add: 4 wheels have scuff marks and need refurb (dealer laughed and said they all come back like this and that wasn't a problem for them to refurb)

M3 residuals are screwed after the warranty hike.

markda, its a 2003 (03)

Vesuvious, yes I know but if its a dealer buying surely they'll sell it on with a BMW AUC warranty which is just the same?

Yes but the book price has plummeted because who wants to buy a second hand car that costs £2000 for a warranty?

M3 warranty is £1050 + £250 for each claim. I agree, I didn't renew because I thought it was ridiculous. I'm also not buying another M car new while they have this s*** going on.

It's £1850 when the car get to 60k.

Even Porsche didn't try that on. Mine's just gone up from £725 per year to £895. No excess. And this on cars up to £120k!

Two things about this.

Firstly - the price is LOW. £20k is more realistic right now, possibly £21k if its on a car with a lot of money in it (i.e. the car you're looking to buy).

However, the recon costs must be factored in and I think thats why they've given you such a low price.

The obvious answer is a simple one though - they don't want the car. I think its as plain as that. This could be for a variety of reasons beyond your control, such as struggling to sell them lately, knowing they have others coming in, etc etc.

I did think that perhaps they don't want it, so I asked them 'I could sell it privately?' to which they insisted they'd like the car as its one of the most popular colour combinations. But yea, who knows what's going on really.

I'm gonna be cheeky and call round some other dealers I think.

No nav, no HK sound.

Marki, I doubt new models have that much of an impact on a 4 year old car - people who are gonna pay £20-25k for a car may not be able to afford a £50+k car and I think the impact of a new model will be more or less the same as when a new registration comes round.

I agree entirely on the view in respect of the impact the E92 M3 will have.

The E46 M3 has losts its money already and most analysts will tell you they're not expecting them to be hit too much when the E92 M3 comes out. You might drop a grand overnight on a bad example - but thats about the worst it'll be. They've dropped their money quicker than expected and I can't see people having too much to worry about.

That still seems well under for a 2003, think there taking the p*ss a little bit there. I would advertise it privately for about £21k and I am fairly confident someone will rip your hand off!

Esp. as the E93 M3 isnt going to be out for donkeys ears.
Am i right in thinking that they have stopped making the E46M3; and if so as i have GAP insurance (new car if mine is stolen, right off etc) what would they give me instead?? confused

Corect - production of the E46 M3 stopped in June/July of this year.

Oh, and I agree with you on the new model too, with most people close to BMW expecting the first models to hit the UK in the Spring of 2008 (after a September 2007 'official' launch).

Slightly OT but usually there will be unregistered cars in storage somewhere that they can source and they'll be available for a while. I think most GAP policies will always fall back to paying you the original purchase price of the vehicle and a few may fall back to paying the list price.

is the fact that you're trading a convertible in October likely to be a factor too? Maybe they will give a better offer (or it'll remain the same?) in say April next year?
