Just as the title says.

Want a sub £1k barge for the winter and the wife found a 1993 525i x se touring.

Any advice would be very gratefully received as I have not heard/read about this particular model.

BTW she was looking at 4x4 with gas conversion 'cause there is no way she will drive a FWD barge!

We have a old 520 (K plate) that is great, just not available to us this winter!

The 4WD drive bit rarely goes wrong...and at £1K who cares if it does anyway!? Bargain!

PCD, it is an ebay ad! So best not to trust the info.

Might just ask an old friend how many where actually sold.

But I come back to my original question......is it any good!

Can't say exactly if the 'ix' 525 touring is 'good'...as I haven't owned one. BUT my wife has owned a 1995 525i Touring for nearly six years. Bought with 77K on the clock...now around 135K.

Considering the abuse she and three kids have thrown at the car over that period it is remarkable! As I've said (ad nauseum) the car took me, a friend and two boys with 5 days worth of camping gear from Shropshire to Le Mans this summer in leather clad, air-conditioned comfort without missing a beat! Self-levelling suspension, despite having been relatively recently re-newed, was squealing and complaining a bit under the huge load, not unexpectedly...but one couldn't really ask more?...Since then it has again picked up the gauntlet daily of abuse uncomplainingly!

One day it'll die...but then again don't we all....

On that cheery note...goodnight Chaps and Chapesses!

My dad had a 525ix saloon which I think is even rarer than the touring. He still says its the best 5 he's driven. At that price, you can't go wrong.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

Unfortunately the seller seems to thing it's worth close to £2k laugh It can't be worth that much confused Can it?

But I'll still keep looking for a £1k or sub RWD barge - Just say no to FWD

Be careful with the 4wd E34 - everything's different with the transmission, to the extent that the wheels have different offsets to accommodate the changes. So you can't easily swop the wheels, get cheap bearings etc. On a £1k car you're presumably looking for longevity and ease/low cost of repair. A normal 525i SE Touring would be a much more sensible choice.

By the way, E34 Tourings are lovely
