What an enormously pointless thread this is!!!!!!

Quite clearly shelbysteve is talking rubbish and perhaps he has realised this!

My only regret is that I spent 10 mins of my life reading it!!!!!!!

I'am not talking rubbish! i feel the 3 year old 330 istn exciting as the old ones.

Looking at spec the old 3251 sport with 170bhp shows a 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds and this 2003 330ci 225bhp convertible 5 speed shows 0-60 in 6.7 a blick of an eye yet 20 years later and the twincam 30 litre engine against a 2.5 single motor istn much more farward is it.
If you had to guys road racing these too cars together the E30 would still be a danger to the newer car especailly the 325i M sport that came out at the end of the run. Once i even remember driving a 318 thinking shit this is quick, i had to stop and open the bonnet to see what motor was in there, it was the 318is model it red lined at 7.5 8 thousand revs. Because the e30 was so much lighter those days it could be thrown into and driven out of corners so fast.
Now this car ive got that i am telling about must have a problem because its not pulling power is poor and feels very heavy!

I was thinking? what is it that this car is lacking!
Does anyone here know if the 2003 330 exhaust has those gates for that back pressure in it that open at a surtan rev, sometimes they seize up closed or open, has this got one fitted i ask, if so sounds like its stuck open as it bellows it tick over! and does the double Vanos unit if at fault slow the car down alot!

some of you may have the 6 speed or the semi auto box that makes it alot better!

If the engine was faster then maybe i could get to feel the car cornering better and responed to the way i ask it to do! To me at the moment the Bloody thing need that M button.

Like Clackson talking about the M5 before he pressed that specail little Button.

I sit there saying come on i am wait for something to happen, it doesnt even bite above 5/6 thousand revs up to cut out.

Are you pissed up or something? All cars have got heavier over the years - the older Audi quattros used be the same, with the Audis slowly getting heavier and more beniegn.

You say you are in 'the trade' with Mr Collard etc etc, however you talk like someone surprised that as cars have had to become safer and more 'controlled', they have naturally become less exciting.

You've backtracked about sixteen miles from your original point, and now it seems you have two axes to grind: 1. You have a bit of a lemon 2. Your E46 'feels' heavy and slow compared to older cars.

Both valid points, but not one that you need to go around telling people their choice of car is perhaps unfortunate...

I'd take a long look at what you have posted, stop bothering us with repeating how great you are at throwing a car around, toddle off to where your mate got this car, poke them in the eye and get it sorted, and then, if it really bothers you, go and buy something old and quick like an orginal E30 325i and take it to track rather than prove how great you are on the road to us...

well, i've never owned a BMW, but i've driven a few late ish ones, and a couple of my friends have had 3 series, both around 2000 model year, and were new at the time..

my frined Das had (and still has) a 328i, he loves it, but its perpetualy broken, constant electrical faults, and often running on 5 cylinders. having said that, he does love it when its running right..

Andy had a 323, of similar vintage. after a year it was returned to the dealer, and the final agreement was that it was unservicable, following a monumental string of major failures, i have heard of other stories similar in the 3 series of around 2000 - 2002

the last modern BMW i have driven was an M3 on a 51 plate.. it was exceptionaly quick, but the suspention and general setup of the car simply wasn't to my taste at all, it is an extremely rigid car, but i can understand how some people like that.

i think the 3 series is a love it or hate it thing, but there has definatley been some reliability issues, do these issues affect the 5 or 7 series too? the MD of our company has an X5, but to date has only had one breakdown, when the diesel pump failed, in fairness that was coverd by warranty and repaired very quickly, since then he's had no problem, the car is a 54 plate.

just as a causal observation, i do seem to see a lot of 3 series at the side of the motorway, all seem to be around 2000 ish models, was there a bad year? i've not noticed 5 and 7's at the side of the road at all really.

i hope it was just a bad batch, as the 6 series looks stunning, even the convertible (a tough job, as most convertibles looks a bit odd with the roof up) but i fear the driving experience may be too harsh for my tastes.. nice looking and sounding car though with the V8

Interesting to come back after doing about 800 miles at the weekend in my 335d Sport Touring and read this thread. It's just so completely at-odds to my experiences with the car, which after 4 months and 3k miles I simply cannot fault - effortless performance (for a road car on UK roads as much as you'll ever need), superb balance and handling, fantastic cabin with all the toys, comfortable and refined, 35+ mpg average fuel economy, peanuts to insure.

I've owned lots of decent (and more expensive) cars in my time - Porsches including a recent 996, Audi RS6 and a number of jap turbo cars - and as an all round package I rate the 335d above all of them.

I *so* itching to ban you for being an annoying troll, however I'm not going to rise to it.

I'm sorry but I'm afraid you've absolutely missed the point here, and I'm afraid YOU are the misguided fool - for instance Trackdemon and I shared a hilarious afternoon taking his Honda and my VW sideways at more and more ludicrous angles on a track - we loved those cars as much as BMWs - as I'm sure everyone else does.

However this is a specific 'make' forum within the many of PH, there *are* other forums in PH for you to have a look at, and we all do too - hell I've even caught Matt in the General Gassing forum...!

You won't be missed from this forum I'm afraid, you've brought nothing constructive to the forum, however you are more than welcome to join in with us in the other forums as long as you don't go around winding everyone up.

If you keep insisting in pushing the buttons of various respected members who give a lot of good advice freely, then I will have to consider having a word with you in the Sin Bin.
