Hi

Can anyone tell me if the headlamp wash and windscreen wash work off seperate motors or the same motor?
(E39 5 Series)

My headlamp wash works fine, but windscreen wash has totally stopped.

Thanks

separate larger motor for the headlamps.

If you can hear the motor working for the washers but nothings happening at the jets then you need to dissconnect one jet and try-if still nothing then you need to get the pump out and clean the filter-they are prone to blockage on the entire BMW range old and new.
If it isnt doing anything then its a case of checking the wiring/fuse etc

thanks blackspider - is the motor easy to get to? isnt it tucked up under the drivers side wheel?

(M5 if that makes a difference)

Its behind the wheel arch liner on the drivers side-you need an 8mm on a rachet or spanner, also phillips if you have mud flaps.
just undo the screws in the local area and bend the plastic liner back-the wheel makes a good stay to hold it back...its soft plastic and wont deform or break

you will see the pumps straight away
