Hi all,

I have an E36 328 Sport which I've been umming and arring about selling for a while but have now decided its definately going to go.

Now the thing is, this car has a huge spec and relatively low mileage so would normally fetch good money but there are a couple of things that need sorting to make it a minter. There are some rust spots on the drivers door, the wheels need a refurb (don't they all?) and it needs two new front tyres and the tracking done. I'd imagine thats about £700 worth of work but am I likely to get that back when I sell or should I just chance it on EBay as is?

Do it as it is - you'll never see the money back.

Mine needs similar work doing to it - and although I'll have it done, its more for my benefit than any resale ideas.

If you can, get the tyres and tracking done though, as this'll make world of difference to the test drive.

Advertise it as it is on Autotrader, describe the "minor faults" if asked about the condition and accept that they may be used as haggling points with a punter.

If the tyres are legal I wouldn't mention that either.

Big up the plus points and let the punter have a look around to see if they spot any minor faults upon inspection. Always remain positive when describing something on the phone (without misleading someone)

Take loads of good pictures and put together a really good ad on here would be a good start.

I think you're right Neil, tyres are probably a must whatever else do. The bodywork is frustrating. I knew about the rust when I bought the car but at the time it was bubbling of the paint, now that its broken through, it looks very untidy. I am a prefectionist though!

Sounds like a good plan. The tyres are just legal but have worn very unevenly thanks to a tracking problem, so probably worth sorting.

Decent alloy wheels help maximise price, Get them polished and fixed, leave the rest. Alloys at £60 each....thats money well spent and will aid a fast sale.

Not on the 328 Sport wheels I'm afraid.

They need to be polished and done properly, and this costs lots on our wheels.

Some chump painted mine silver, and did a shite job, and its going to cost me upwards of £100 per wheel to get done correctly.

As long as they are clean and not scraped they can be left - I put up with mine being a bit ropey as they are covered in brake dust half the time...
