Does anyone know of a fix for a dark screen on the sat nav on my X5. It has always been a bit dark but now of a night I cannot see the screen even with the TV on. However with the interior light on I can see it a bit better. Is there an illumination bulb within the unit?

During the day it is now very hard to see. The car is 02 reg.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry couldn't help it!

If you played with all the settings can only suggest it might be something like the light sensor has gone ga-ga and your car thinks it's night time all the time and adjusts the brightness accordingly.

Stupid point maybe, but the screen backlight brightness is linked to the dials brightness. Turn the dial brightness wheel (down by the light switch) to full on to see if that makes a difference....

Also it dims when you turn the lights on...

Thanks it is a good point, but no good, as it made no difference.

There is a brightness setting in the secret menu for the screen, press menu and go into set (or settings), press and hold menu button for 10 seconds, this will push you into the "secret" menu, and its under the video module (i think) and you can adjust the brightness.

Also if you have the mk4 dvd nav computer, going to the latest version (v29) of the OS will also adjust the brightness setting.

Hi

I managed to get into the secret area, but I cannot access any of the settings under the video settings. All it shows me is are the actual settings that I have. I cannot adjust them.

Any more info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Your being a great help. I am in the menu that you mentioned but instead of brightness I have contrast. Mine is in an 02 reg car, maybe I am still not in the right menu or my computer is slightly different, I have put up the contrast that has slightly improved matters.

Thanks again for the help

The only other place is in the set (settings) menu.

Brightness and contrast do the same job ie: make the screen brighter.

can you take a pic of the monitor? and it may be faulty, mine is very bright at night.

Looking at your pictures of the monitor they are a lot brighter than mine have ever been. I reckon that I need a new one!, or I could take it apart as described in an ealier post.

Thanks for the help though!

Cheers

Are you sure you checked the dial brightness adjuster?

yes
The red on light on the unit goes from darker to lighter when I move the dial, but no difference to the screen.

The TV picture is not too bad during daylight though.

The worst is on the menu screen for darkness.
