Just taken delivery of a 2004 E60 5 series and very pleased with it! (535d)

Car has media package with bluetooth phone which has paired to my phone no probs and seems to work fine except............everyone I phone says they can barely hear me! I can hear them perfectly and signal and battery on phone are ok. Is there any way to adjust the microphone sensitivity? Also, I don't have a cradle for my phone - will this make much difference?

A mate as an X3 with the same phone in and he says his is the same, but as he rarely takes calls in the car he hasn't worried about it.

I think they;re all like that, the BMW BT really is piss poor, pity considering it works well and is a neat option but clarity is woeful

I think you just have to think about where the microphone is and as much as possible talk to it! Sounds stupid but there it is!

In my experience I found the softer I speak the clearer I can be heard!
When people say they cant hear you, its natural to speak up, give it a go speaking quieter.

bought a cradle for the phone which has apparantly improved things.

As I'm now using a different phone (SE K800i) I have another strange fault! After the each contact there is an M in brackets (only on the idrive, not on the phone itself) and the voice control actually says "M" after every name!!

Any ideas?

Most likely to do with the way your names are stored on your sim. When you enter a name into your contacts, most phones ask you to nominate a symbol (home/mobile/office etc) And then when you put that sim into another phone it reads the sim differently to the way the other phone enters the names.
Why it only shows on the car, and not on your phone is a mystery, but Im its that.
My new phone has changed all my contacts around to read with surname first, with the little M after each name. But in my car, all my names read correctly as I entered them.

You're right - it's (M) for mobile! (Doh!)

Looks like I'm stuck with it then!

Thanks for your help.

A lot of phone bluetooth problems are down to compatability.
There is a list of compatable phones on the BMW website and that can also be affected by the software level of the phone and/or car.

We advise customers with incompatable phones to buy a second phone that is compatable and get a dual sim card and swap phones in and out of the car.
A pain I know but a way around it.
