Driving down the M4 earlier with the climate control set on 19C. Suddenly, what looked like dry ice poured out of the center vent on the dashboard. I was a bit shocked to say the least!

Popped into Dick Lovett Bristol, where the service guy said it sounded like a leak (either water or refridgerant) in or near the heater matrix. They would have to access it and remove it to find the leak - a 7-8 hour job! eekeekeek

Anyone heard of this happening before? Air con seems to work OK now, although I've switched it off to be on the safe side.

Had similar effects in very humid weather - just water condensing due to the aircon and forming what are effectively mini clouds.

Yup - happens every so often in mine - especially if I turn the Air-con off for a moment (you know, for that extra boost wink ) and then turn it back on - I'll see those clouds every so often.

I'd say DL were yanking your chain there my friend.

Get thee down to Clayton Cars ASAP - they are much better espcially for a car your age.

Just booked mine in now - Inspection II and MOT - £260 for the Inspection inc. parts ex vat, plus £49 for the MOT.

I'm big fans since they helped me out in a sticky spot with a problem.

That's a good price for an I2. What are the parts that are included?

All parts (i.e the usual bits) are included in that price.

Dazren highly rates them, and trusts them enough for non-stamp work on his M5...

Whats a normal price for an I2?

It may simply be fog condensing out of the air. Before you spend squillians of pounds taking everything apart, does it still work? If the refrigerant has leaked out as they're suggesting, it won't work any more.

That's happened on three cars I've owned, each time when switching the aircon on in humid conditions.
Perfectly normal as far as I know.

Yep - had exactly the same myself. Driving along one hot day with the air-con on. Switched it off 'cause I was cool enough. Switched it on again a bit later 'cause I was getting warm again and what looked like smoke started coming out through the vents. Switched it straight off again and it stopped. Next time I used it it was fine though I found, similarly, that switching it off for a bit and then on again would produce the 'smoke' again. I just figured it was some type of deposit that formed when the air-con was switched off after a period of use and which was then blown out through the vents if the air-con was switched on again. Nothing to worry about.
