Hi
1st time on here, seems like a great place.
Started the bm up this morning and the automatic transmission warning light stays on? The book says to take to a dealer for a check and the car is in emergency mode.
Is this serious or terminal?
The car is a bmw 523se 1999 on a T plate with double vanos engine.
Hope some one can advise coz i can't afford main dealer prices at the moment!!!

Cheers
Tony

The autobox is generall pretty bombproof so it's unlikely to be anything seriously wrong mechanically.

It's more likely to be one of a number of things such as.

A faulty sensor
Low ATF
Dodgy electrical or earth connection
Damaged wiring
Dodgy ECU.

A dealer or indie with BMW diagnostic software should be able to diagnose it fairly quickly.

Checking for fluid leaks or loose connections is about all the layman can do.
