Hi Guys, I have just got back from a 2000 mile round trip to Italy, via Germany to make use of the Autobahns and go through the Alps. I averaged 32 MPG for the trip. I didn't drive with economy in mind, ie I drove enthusiastically on the M ways and had fun in the mountains, wife permitting, and my little boy has some new words in his vocabulary, 'faster, daddy, faster'. and 'naughty daddy!'

But generally cruised around the ton laws permitting...

Is this the best I could expect, is this normal, a manual owning friend claims his averages is 40+. I have a Van Aarken chip fitted too.

Also I have read about auto boxes getting the gears wrong. Descending in the Alps the box would select a lower ratio, as you would in a manual , but then need quite a few revs to change up again, this then repeated on a long descent of a steep Motorway section whilst slowing for traffic. Overtaking on single lane it would kick down but then change up whilst still accelerating, a bit unnerving as a haybailer is coming the other way. Again is this normal, and can I reset the boxes memory to avoid this?

your experiences will be appreciated.

Seems strange, when overtaking on a single lane, were you pressing on, or was it a leisurely overtake?

EGS reset can be done using carsoft/autologic or your local stealer!

I floored it to get kick down, I think it dropped 2 cogs then went up to 4th quickly, but not because of revs. It did it a couple of times, so I used the tiptronic or Sport mode after that. It hasn't done it before or since, but I have not driven it that way before
