Hi Guys,

Im looking to buy either a 535d sport or Audi A6 3.0 tdi (the wife's preference) in the next few weeks. Haven't got round to driving either one yet, but thought I would canvas your opinions.

Are there any reliability issues I should look out for? Is re-mapping the engine worthwhile?

Also, what can I expect to get for £30k ish? Are the official dealers open to a bit of negotiation?

Many thanks in advance

B

The first thing you need to do is take a loooong test drive in an A6. When you're done go and do the same in a 535d - you'll get your answer biggrin

If you find a DMS chipped 535d that's even better!

I've had mine from new over a year now with no niggles except creaking door seals which were replaced under warranty. At the moment I am struggling to find a car to replace this with - it's simply awesome! furious

You're comparing the wrong cars - an A6 is comparable to the 525d if not the 530d...the 535d is in a different league smile

Your budget should get you an 54/05/55 reg with decent miles and a good spec depending on the reg you opt for. Dealers are open to negotiation on newly built cars (I've heard of discounts of up to 9%) but dont drop much on approved used models...try finding one privately and you'll be better off....

The New 07 LCI model has not affected the prices of the pre face lift models especially in the Sport Trim as apart from the headlights and a boot lip the exteriors are identical... hope this helps - let me know if you want to know anything specific..

As a foot note, the LCI has 10 more horses than the previous 535 and all LCI's have a better interior with subtle changes to make life more pleasant.

I have a June 535D M Sport having moved from a 4.8iS X5 and this car is a whopper. I've done 11,000 miles in 4 months and it's been treated by DMS. Wicked in the wet and fast as fcuk! (had a 996 for 3 years and this is just as much fun).

Try to get an LCI if you can and good luck beer

i forgot to ask what they're like in the wet - recently wrote off my car after aquaplaning on standing water and losing control, hence the appeal of quattro to my mrs

I would imagine regardless of what car you drive, be it 4 x 4 or rear wheel drive, if you start to aquaplane you are a passenger waiting for the event to stop.

It seems OK in the wet, but like any heavy powerful rear wheel drive you have to respect it.

With a rempap, the traction control light does to flicker on in 1st, 2nd and 4rd mind when you're pushing on lick

I`ve had a 535D sport since May and it is a great family wagon, spacious, punchy and long-legged. I tried the A6 3.0TDI and the E320CDI when looking and there really is no comparison when you drive the cars (I also originally favoured the Audi).

No real problems with mine other than a software fault with the i-drive that was eventually sorted by the stealer.

£30K will get you a decent 05/55 plate from a dealer I`d have thought. Haven`t chipped mine yet but sure it`s only a matter of time!
