RE: 335i exhaust note: Am I the only one on PH who has disconnected the exhaust butterfly on the LH exhaust? Makes a hell of a difference. Posted a topic about it a while ago, but got no response whatsoever.

is it an easy job? Is it a sound-only mod? Any other effects on car/engine/emmissions etc...?

Very easy indeed. You don't even need to jack the car up. There's a vaccum pipe connecting to the actuator just a hand's length from the LH tailpipe. Take it off, block it, pipe back on, job done. Takes the best parts of two min. I have spoken to the engine guys at BMW and they say it will have an effect on emissions and fuel consumption (the heating up cycle for the cat is apparently prolonged), however I have not noticed any difference at all.

been looking at the specs, and I think you have a point! 330i satisfies the head side (good mpg, low emmissions and hence BIK etc etc) and also the heart side (3 litre petrol straight six and 270 odd horses!) plus, it's cheaper than both 335s... I think I might have a winner...

The 3 litre srtaight six is perfectly balanced for BHP and Tourque a perfect match for the 6 speed box, quiet and very smooth i got a 15% uk discount so excellent value for money as well and none of the worn out Turbo prob's if you want to keep it out of warrenty

trying to get a test drive sorted out... what are the BMW flappy paddle autos like? I've driven a Cambriocorsa Maserati (a guff 'box) and a Golf GTI DSG (very nice, I like!)...

cheers

BM have launched there first one this year on the M sport models, it's a bit of a gimmick, puts auto box in sport mode and you change gears on paddles instead of sliding selector accross and moving it up and down, you get to keep your hands on the wheel, paddles block the veiw of the dials abit, well on the 5 dont know about the 3 , BMW dont seem to have many test cars about only entry level diesels, they need a BMW world like Merc so you can test all the varients in one visit ,compare and buy.it's up to you if you thing the paddles are worth the small extra, all the cars i had with them i never used them after the novelty wore off

the Maser and the Ferrari are a proper automated manual boxes, all the mass makers like BMW just follow the trend but on a totally auto box, just slip it in D and enjoy
